Serena paced back and forth across the bridge, reviewing the information, and examining possibilities, and either keeping or discarding them. What else could she do in the interim?

((Update on the rift/distortion and it’s activity? Liam started monitoring it now that the tractor beam polarity was reversed, for any changes, including size, harmonics, polarities, particle emissions…))

Looking more closely at the phenomenon, one might describe the chronitons they first observed as rather resembling the event horizon of a black hole. And the distortion got stronger the closer in one got.

((Right. Proximity is understood. We’ve reversed the polarity of the tractor beam punching into/through the rift, in an attempt to alter (lessen) the effects, since using a tractor beam in the first place seemed to exacerbate the problem. What is the effect? Is it having the desired effect? is it making things worse? We’re not changing positions, but attempting to affect the actual anomaly. Not our relative position to it.

((The short version is that you’re contending with the fact that someone from the Athena is in the future and someone from the future is on the Athena. What mitigating effects reversing the polarity of the tractor beam had, the whole situation got worse and more complicated when people started jumping around in time. The action you took is having its desired effect however having members of each crew on the other ship is having its own effect. Remember that you’re not just contending with physical proximity but also movements in time. The ships are “moving” such that they’ll be exchanged in time.))

“It’s having the desired effect, but it’s not a solution. We need to figure out how to get everyone back to their own timeline. I’m going to check with Hammor to see if he’s the only one out of place.” Liam stated as he typed a message to Hammor. He didn’t recall hearing about any Shai members on the Athena, but then again their fellow officer just recently disappeared.

Hammor, is anyone from the Shai’s crew missing?

The man had an idea, but he waited to hear from Hammor.

Looking over Liam’s shoulder, Serena considered for a moment. Moving to the nearest console she familiarized herself with the layout. =^=We’re getting there, at a glacial pace, but we’re getting there, Captain.=^= She frowned and chewed her lower lip. “This should be going faster. We saw a much bigger effect earlier,” she mused out loud. The idea was solid and they had evidence that they were on the right path but it was very inefficient.

Leaning back in her seat for a few moments, she stared at the screen. Something was wrong. Sitting up, she pulled up the map of the rift and the distortion. Examining the layers of data she began filtering through them, narrowing. Narrowing…

Four dimensional objects always messed with her head, and looking at the rift with an approximation of 4D typography was making her eyes go funny. Filtering that down too, so it was only a dim overlay, she began turning the whole thing around and rotating the scan. All that was left was a representation of the flow of chronitons, a buzzing cloud of lime green particles flowing and bouncing and scattering. But there were eddies and flows in the chaos. Filtering out some of the ‘noise’ clarified those flows. There was the rift with particles leaking in both directions in big flows, but then lines almost woven in and back through.

A tangle in time.

“Mister Madison, take a look at that.” She paused, then fed the data over to the present-day Athena. =^=Athena, I’m feeding you some filtered data that somewhat maps this tangle in time.=^=

Liam nodded, feeling the same frustration. He enjoy this area of science, but only when theorizing and not in life or death situations. He began to filter out the unimportant ‘noise’ as he focused on the area that Stone pointed out.
