Daggum was silent a moment and then looked at Faye. “I think if we can handle this situation right, we may have our own intelligence network.” and he laughed.

Faye snorted. “Wouldn’t that be something. Here’s the woman who’s been Intelligence’s worst nightmare at times, and then she goes and uses everything she’s learned for her own devices.” She pointed her index finger towards the ceiling. “Actually, that sounds about right. What is this galaxy coming to?”

Daggum grinned and said “Hey, I can think of worse things than being married to the sexiest spy-master in the galaxy.” and he chuckled. “Holy crap… do you know how many people would lose their minds if we did that? It would be almost worth doing just to watch them squirm.” and he laughed loudly.

Faye leaned back in the chair and folded her arms behind her head, crossing her legs at the knee. “I know soooo many people. And so do you! But I’m still a member of Tortuga!,” she said, breaking into a wild laugh. She hadn’t told him all her stories about Tortuga Station, but she told him about how a suave captain saved her from a tight spot on said base and him and their crew took her in under yet another alias before she finally committed to being Faye Calloway again and working to apply to Starfleet Academy.

“What’s the best part is that they’d never see it coming, either. It’s a funny thought. For after my captaining days, of course,” Faye said, her eyes alit. But he knew her too well not to know his idle comments had spurred not just a few pathways but a cascade of thoughts all branching and taking interesting directions she wouldn’t have assumed.

~Faye

He smiled knowingly- and a little conspiratorially- and bent low in front of her and half-whispered “Your Intel training. My logistics. Our combined contacts and favors owed to us. Hell, even our family.” His emerald eyes sparkled with a wicked gleam. “We could give the Syndicate a real run for their money, I bet.” and he shrugged slightly. “I mean… imagine the good an organization like that could do…”

Faye’s thoughts went immediately to her parents and their ill-begotten mission she only knew the barest gist of. It was enough to extrapolate and they had to know that Faye would have filled in the gaps, especially once the arrest warrants went out, and the list of dead posted. Most days she was trying to not think about it, ut there were moments like this one where her heart ached so badly she wasn’t sure what to do about it. Maybe they’d come back alive, maybe not, but Faye had to hope their efforts wouldn’t be in vain.

She lifted her gaze to Daggum, her stormy grey-green eyes holding an infrequent darkness to them. Well, less frequent these days, especially since Dag came into her life. “The Orion Syndicate, the Shadow Syndicate. Name one, name them all. We could quash them like the cowardly bugs they are.”

~Faye

Daggum.leaned back and looked at her a moment, his head cooking to the side as he thought. “Or… and this is just a thought… we could do to them what the Shadow group did to Intel- except better- and start using them to do good in places and ways that the Fleet and the Federation can’t.” and then he looked straight at her.

“Or *won’t.”

They both knew that for all the good the two groups did, and it was a lot of good, both had a very dark side. And if anyone found themselves on that side… the prices paid were unconscionable.

She looked away for a moment, a deep frown settling over her face. “It’s a fine line. I’m not good at those,” Faye whispered. It was easy to cross those lines and boy had she done so in the past. And if she did, what was to stop others from doing so too? What stopped them from just becoming another organization of thugs?

~Faye

“I am.” Daggum said, and he was. Be it working the system to get what his ship needed, brokering favors, or even leaning on those who needed to be ‘motivated’ to do what needed to be done; Daggum Hammor was never malicious. Never cruel. Never needlessly forceful. He had grown up on the other side of the line he now lived by. He knew where it was, and he was very good at walking up to it, but not crossing it.

Uncrossing her legs, Faye dropped her arms and rose to her feet. She crossed the small distance between them and slipped into his lap and slipped her arms around his sides (because let’s face it, she couldn’t wrap her arms around the large man if she tried). Faye rested her face on his chest and sighed. “Whatever would I do without you, Starman?” In rare moments, she contemplated that terrible reality and it almost always brought her to the edge of a panic attack.

~Faye

Daggum pulled her close and said “No telling. Lucky for you, you’ll never have to find out.” He squeezed her to him and held her in silence, just the two of them without any distance at all between them.
