Daggum shrugged. “Yeah… a bit. But it’s really just a puzzle to solve.” He turned and looked at her. “Besides… the way I see it, she may have given birth to me… but she is no mother of mine. Like I said… just a problem we have to figure out a solution to.”

Daggum

She offered him a soft smile. “Well, fortunately for both of us, puzzles are our forte, and my favourite past time. And not to put too fine a point on it, I’m not interested in making her like me either, so maybe it’s just as well we’re not looking to be one big happy family.” They already had one of those, dramatic as it could be. But at least it was an honest one.

Daggum laughed. “Can you even imagine what your mother would do to her if they met? Or Pikelsimer? Or both?” and he laughed again.

Daggum

“Tiny bits of green fluff everywhere,” Faye said with certainty. “Maybe not at first, but surely after a few hours, and that’s only if she was actually not trying to making everyone’s lives more…” Her attention was diverted by a call from Orion and Faye was pretty certain she knew who it was.

The face of the middle aged Trill woman appeared and immediately smiled at the sight of Faye. ||To what do I owe the pleasure of this call?” she said, seeming to be at a desk in a room that looked like something of a small office.||

Faye grinned. “Well, I would love to say I just called to catch up some more, but we already did that recently. I need a favour…” she said, more hesitant than she would have liked.

Linella’s eyes widened. ||Of course, anything for you my dear. But I can’t imagine what I could do that you that you can’t.”||

Faye folded her arms on the desk and leaned in and explained the sudden call from the woman that was likely Daggum’s biological mother. “What we need is more information about her that will help our case. We know she has a record, but none of the charges stuck and she has Syndicate and also some corrupt Starfleet connections. We need dirt on her that will prove she’s manipulating the system, and Daggum. Anything that would delegitimize her claim to any inheritance.”

She laughed. ||If it were anyone else I’d hang up on them. But because it’s you, Faye, I know you know exactly what you’re asking.||

She nodded and Faye sighed. “The only other person with the connections we need is someone I think you would also agree with us is less than ideal for me to ask.”

Linella shook her head. ||Don’t you dare. I left Kodell’s on good terms. And I can’t find something out, he knows people and there are ways I can ask without him knowing the request is coming from you two. Leave well enough alone.||

Faye smirked. “That’s the plan, trust me. We had more than our fill on our visit.” She looked back at Daggum wit a querying look to see if he had anything he wanted to add or clarify.

Daggum looked over Faye’s shoulder and said “Thank you, Linella. I… we… really appreciate the help. How are you liking the center? How does it feel to be your own person?”

Daggum

Linella gave him a soft smile. ||I know it might be strange to hear, but I never felt like I wasn’t. As I told Faye a long time ago, I was in a bad place in my life and I hadn’t made very good decisions. For me, Ebu Manor was safety. But… I will say it’s very nice to come and go as I please and not have to justify it to anyone… within reason of course. And Paul seems to be a good man. We are working well together so far.||

“You’re not exactly a difficult person to be around, either,” Faye said with a grin.

The Trill laughed. ||*Well, I mellowed as I aged. You think you got yourself into trouble, Faye. Sometime I’ll tell you more about my ill-spent youth.||

Faye beamed at her. “I look forward to it. Anytime.”

Linella nodded and looked to Daggum. ||I’ll let you both know what I find out, but from what you’ve already told me about her, we’re probably going to be looking for someone higher up in the Syndicate to talk to. Whatever I can’t find out, I’ll start a line of Inquiry.||

“Be careful,” Faye said adamantly.

Linella winked at Faye and focused on Daggum entirely. ||And to think people would think Faye is cold…|
