Janna lead Elena with Shock down a deck to Sickbay and as she stepped in, she felt another wave of dizziness. Pausing, she had to brace her hands on her thighs. “Ben?” she called out to the CMO.

Sickbay was abuzz with activity, mostly minor cases suffering from similar symptoms as Kingston. Ben stuck his head out from behind a privacy curtain set up by one of the biobeds, he had a distinctly vexed expression on his face. He stuck his head back and said something to whoever was lying there then stepped out and closed the curtain then crossed the room, long legs carrying him in a few strides. He gave the three newcomers a quick once over “Janna, Mr. Shock” He said giving each a curt nodd, raising an eyebrow at the third person. He fished out his tricorder and started scanning Kingston, he still had an annoyed expression “Whose head is this whole mess on?” He asked his tone sharing his face’s vexation “I’ve been very vocal in my dislike of anything temporal in nature Janna”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“I think most of us have had enough of it from before,” Janna said. “And I don’t think there is anyone to blame this time.” Her head spun, and the nausea intensified. Unlike the others that Grey might have been treating with odd symptoms, Janna’s were a bit more distinct and also harder to pinpoint the cause of. She was experiencing intense nausea, dizziness and even a bit of vertigo, but without the expected physical triggers.

Shock agreed with Dr Grey’s dislike, nodded back to the physician.

Ben snorted at Kingstons answer, half amusement half annoyance “Give me twenty minutes I’ll find someone to blame” He said in a huff.

“Dr Grey, I should like to introduce you to counsellor Elena Jannson, from the Shai, our unexpected guest in these times of temporal distortions. She too may need an examination.” Shock turned to Elena, “Counsellor?”

Benjamin raised an eyebrow at the new arrival “Glad to know that we still see the importance of mental health in the future” He didn’t know much about what was going on, only getting the occasional brief, which was fine by him until he starting feeling like he was doing zero-g exercises, something he’d learned to associate with temporal mischief.

Pushing herself upright, Kingston forced herself to walk over to a biobed, bracing a hand on it and letting the last wave of illness pass. She glanced at Ben with an intense look. “You may want to ask the captain discreetly if he too is… affected,” she said with significance. Janna knew what it was, from context, but damned if she wanted to have the whole ship talking about this and making assumptions.

That received another raised eyebrow from Ben “Then so I shall” He turned away for a moment, going through one of the cabinets and bringing back a hypo “Some anti-nausea medicine with a mix of anti-vertigo, should help” He said placing the hypo to the counselor’s neck.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Thank you, Ben,” Janna said, forcing herself to breathe deeply. She wasn’t sure how much of her symptoms were related to her new ‘abilities’, but she suspected based on pervious experiences with time crap that the causation was above average. Breathing deeply again, she nodded. “It’s helping a bit.”

“Please scan our guest too,” Shock reiterated. He turned to Elena. “Perhaps your physiology exhibits similar changes as Counsellor Kingston’s. How are you feeling, counsellor?”

Benjamin nodded and grabbed his tricorder again “What I wouldn’t give to get my hands on a future tricorder” He mumbled to himself “I wonder if it’s similar technology or if 24th-century stuff is akin to them what 20th-century medical barbarism is to us” He wasn’t expecting an answer, just Idle thoughts to lessen his annoyance at the current situation.

Shock had no reason to know why Janna was experiencing the odd symptoms that she was, but she highly, highly doubted that Elena was having the same time. It was far more than improbable. Orvos’ voice drew her from her reverie as she tried to still the swirling sensation in her gut that was dissipating after Ben gave her the injection. =/\=We’re in Sickbay and Dr. Grey is scanning my counterpart from the Shai to see if we can glean any useful information.=/\=

Benjamin looked up from his scanner, he always felt a need to look toward where the sound of someone’s com call was coming from , felt more polite =^=Aye she is, I would like it noted where things get noted that I already voted against more temporal shenanigans=^= He added in a sour tone. alternate dimentional counterparts, timezone clones, and now this nonsense, This kind of stuff never happened before you took the big office He thought to himself in the same tone.

“Doctor–” Shock needed to caution his colleague, “your expression of frustration and disapproval with the situation is not conducive to solving it, and it may be regarded as hostile by our guest. I advise you to regulate your emotions and be respectful to your colleagues and our guest, for the security of us all.”

Benjamin gave the Vulcan security chief a side-eye glance “At this point in time there is no way for you to measure what is and is not conducive to resolving our current predicament” He said in a calm tone “And unless Federation standards are severely lowered in the next few hundred years I doubt that using dry humor to alleviate tension will be seen as hostile by a Starfleet Officer” He didn’t add a pejorative comment at the end about pointy ears and was proud of his self-control, then he felt annoyed at himself for feeling proud about not being a 23rd-century species.

Shock hit the communicator on his chest, “Captain – our guest from the future is under supervision from security. It is imperative that with regard to her and the Shai, we follow the directives on minimizing contamination on the timeline.” It was his duty to uphold the security and regulations. Whatever the circumstances, timeline incursions and contaminations are to be avoided at all costs. Wars had been fought over the timeline – it cannot under any circumstances occur again.

Orvos happened to glance to Faye for the briefest second before replying. “How exactly did she get aboard?” he asked with intense curiosity.

“Captain,” replied Shock, “we cannot at this point determine how exactly she got here. The chief scientist is not on board, and this situation is novel. As my team and I were looking for Dr Kingston on this ship, we arrived at the counselling department, but suddenly found ourselves transported to another dimension, or situation, which I can only interpret as the Shai. This was when Dr Kingston and her colleague from Shai were conversing with another. Moments later, all of us, including Dr Kingston and our guest from the Shai, found ourselves back on the Athena. We immediately went to Sickbay for evaluation. Once the physician clears us, you may meet with her to appraise yourself of the situation. We will come to the bridge, unless you order us elsewhere. Our guest remains under security escort, for the integrity of the timeline.”

Shock had spoken long, but the captain asked “how exactly” she had come here. While Shock was unable to answer to that level of detail, the details that he could provide would help reach a bit on the way to “exactly”. He thought it would be good for the captain to meet with Elena. After all, El-Aurians had a certain ability to appreciate temporal matters, together with their longevity and accumulated experience of various peoples and species as well as anomalies.

The doctor sighed “This will also be the only time you get to advise me on my emotional state” He said turning to look at Shock, his expression stern “Out of the four of us you are the least qualified to make that judgment” He turned back to his scanner “You’re right about the temporal directive though” He said with a slight scowl “At least it’s easier on our end” He said with another sigh.

Scanning Lt Jannson showed a human in largely good health. She did have a small cloud of chronitons around her, like temporal radiation.

Janna eyed Shock and Grey and gave them a subtle serious look. This was not the time. “It’s unlikely Elena will be showing the same symptoms as me. Mine are… specific to something,” Kingston said cryptically. Grey knew, but few others did outside of Orvos. “But I could be wrong about some of it.” She gave Elena a half shrug and an apologetic smile.

It was good that Kingston interrupted Shock’s and Grey’s interaction. In Shock’s mind, Grey was not fit for duty, given his emotional outbursts. Though Grey, along with the rest of the crew, were under an ordeal unlike any other they had been through. People with lesser abilities, especially humans (and Tellarites and Andorians, among others), to regulate their emotions would be the first to fall victim to the stress. Shock’s duties to uphold the security of the ship became more difficult.

“Dr Kingston, is your condition fully independent of the events related to the Shai? Or is there any aspect of its expression right now that is related to the Shai?”

The unease was still there, even though Janna could focus her mind enough to push it to the side. “This thing with the Shai is triggering symptoms of something that is related to me specifically.” Janna might have said more, but this was not the time nor the place and she still wasn’t keen on it being public knowledge. And yet she had known in his eval that Shock was at least peripherally aware that something was a bit different about Janna.

Shock understood that Kingston really did not want to devolve further. It was possible that this needed to be probed later – for the safety of all – but right now it seemed like Kingston’s condition was hers alone, for something she was aware of, even before the situation with the Shai. He recalled his psychological evaluation with her, earlier, and there was something similar then. Or had he been misinterpreting that?

“If there isn’t anything we can determine here, perhaps we should get to the Bridge?” she asked, both Grey and Shock.

“Once the physician has cleared us,” Shock replied. He turned to Dr Grey. “Sir?”

He turned to Elena as well. “You will have to remain under security escort, for two reasons: for your own security, and secondly, to stop others from interacting with you that might injure the timeline. Any information you provide will have to obey the laws regulating timeline interactions. Do you understand? If so, do you consent?”

Benjamin resisted the urge to roll his eyes “Yeah you are fine, just a little chroniton radiation but that is to be expected.”
