On the bridge of the USS Shai, in the 28th century, a full crew complement turned and stared in wonder at what would have registered as an intruder had he beamed in, but he just… appeared. He wasn’t there and then he was. Given the present situation, they couldn’t assume anything. The Captain stood up and turned to the ops station where now two people stood. He looked at the stranger and vaguely recognizing the uniform from historical records said simply “Welcome aboard the Shai.”-GM
Hammor looked around for a moment and then cursed… loudly. He took a breath and then said “Lieutenant Commander Daggum Hammor, Chief Operations Officer, USS Athena. I’d ask for permission to come aboard, sir; but I think the opportunity has passed.” He looked around the bridge and simply said “How can I help?”
Hammor, Ops
The Captain chuckled. “Captain Michael Tigh. Next to you is our Chief of Operations, Lieutenant Dahlia.” He stepped a little closer. “Until we get… whatever this is- whatever brought you here- under control, consider this a temporary transfer. Lieutenant Commander, work with our science team. Tell them what the other ship knows. Put it together with what we know. I’d like some kind of suggestion as quickly as you can make it.”
-GM
Daggum shrugged and said “I don’t know if we know any more than you do.” He turned andblooked the science station and said “Ok, here is what we k ow and what we think.” and he proceeded to bring the Shai crew up to speed. He then turned and looked at the Ops officer. “Can you please send word that I am OK and here? I don’t want the Athena thinking I’m lost… at least, not yet.” and he gave a rueful smile.
Hammor, Ops
The Ops officer with whom he had been communicating sent a message to that effect. A Vulcan science officer stood and spoke “Lieutenant T’Vros, Science. We may not even be the only two vessels caught in this phenomenon. Yet… we appear to be transposing with one another. Which cannot be allowed for the sake of the timeline.”
-GM
“Unless this already happened. Can you check your logs and see what you have on the USS Athena?” Hammor said as he looked at the Ops officer and said “Pleasure to meet you in person.” and he chuckled.
Hammor, Ops
“Pleasure to meet you as well. No reply yet.” The Ops officer responded. “But who knows if there’s a dilation between the two ships?” Captain Tigh walked over. “There’s entirely too much we don’t know.”
-GM
A message came through. Acknowledged. Currently, we’ve reversed the tractor beam’s polarity and Hammor disappeared shortly after. We’re currently open to any idea you might have to sever this connection.

Hammor looked at the Ops officer and said “Reply with ‘This is Hammor. I am on the Shai. Understood polarity reversal. Will try to assist from this side.’” He then turned and looked at Lieutenant T’Vros. “Tell me what your records show about the Athena. Maybe if in yiur timeline this happened previously, we can get an idea of what to do… or even not to do.”
Hammor, Ops
T’Vros looked back at Hammor for a moment, assessing what to do. Telling him what logs reported of his ship’s future could contaminate the timeline. But the timeline had been well and truly contaminated by his mere presence. He pulled up the records and explained “According to the logs, the USS Athena was reported missing in action on or about your contemporary stardate. The rest of the file is redacted.” The Captain spoke. “Computer display full file on USS Athena disappearance at science station. Authorization Tigh-zero-nine-four-alpha-six-echo-five-whiskey.”
=You are not authorized to view that file.=
Captain Tigh sighed a heavy sigh. “Well, we’re deep in it now.”-GM
Hammor thought for a moment and then said =/\= Computer, access personnel files for USS Athena. Cross reference voice authorization with my voice. Open previously requested file, authorization Hammor-nine-zero-nine-zero-alpha-five-seven-zulu. =/\= Hammor looked at the Captain and said “If your records have me as a member of the Athena crew, I should have access to the ship’s record. Although I imagine if we get this cleared up and everyone goes to when they are supposed to be, you may have some explaining to do, sir.” He grinned and then looked back at the Ops station.
Hammor, Ops
The computer screen flickered. The file appeared. The USS Athena, on its current stardate, was recorded as MIA. All crew unaccounted for. Hammor was accounted as going missing in the ship logs six hours in one of the final transmissions before the ship itself vanished.
-GM
Hammor thought for a moment and then said “Ok. Looks like whatever happens to the Athena in your timeline occurs in a little less than six hours. So we have that long to figure this out. Now then… ” and he looked at the Science station. “What is the nature of this rift? And is the Athena and the Shai connected in any way, shape, or form?”
Hammor, Ops
“In essence, sir…” the CSO responded. “I have no damn clue. Best I can explain what I’m seeing is a temporal black hole.” She sighed. “Chronitons. Time particles. Condensed into a small space. Particles compressed into a small space can express extraordinary gravitational forces. Were this a phenomenon made of quarks and matter as we perceive it, we’d all be dead and crushed into an impossibly small space right now. The force this… thing expresses is mildly gravitational but more of a temporal distortion. It’s like we’re in a slowly decaying orbit. And as the orbit decays… time will distort further and further from the base point we started at.”
-GM
Hammor listened and then said “Ok… an orbit around what, though? Each other? Or something else?”
Hammor, Ops
“That’s the thing. We’re not talking about space, we’re talking about time.” She rested her head in her hands for a moment. “This is an orbit around a point in time. Millions of years ago these chronitons collided, and every 400 years since then they express a gravitational force. For some reason it waxes and wanes across 400 year periods. Time and space are one thing but they’re also not. So in essence, in column a we have the temporal effects and in column b we have the physical effects. Chronitons are particles and do express physical forces but the primary effects we’re dealing with are temporal and entirely to do with the fact that this phenomenon shouldn’t exist.I guess what I’m saying is we’re on a ticking clock, and I can’t tell you how much time is left because the closer we get to the end the weirder time is going to seem. But there will come a time when both of our ships will be fully cast into times to which they are not native. That’s the decaying orbit. It’s a metaphor for falling into this… thing.”
-GM
Daggum thought and thought, pacing a bit and staring tat the deck as he did. Finally he looked up at the CSO and said “So what if we give the anomaly more chonitons? You know… fill up it’s proverbial fuel cell and see if that does something?”

OOC: I’m guessing this went through. Crosspost from the Shai.
-Janice B.Another message appeared from Liam: Hammor, is anyone from the Shai’s crew missing?
-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.A simple sensor sweep would tell Hammor that the Shai’s counselor was no longer onboard.
-GM
Hammor looked at the Operations Officer. “Let them know your Counselor may be in the same predicament as I am.”
