The door closed behind Faye as she followed Orvos inside. She fixed her stormy grey-green eyes on the captain. “What’s up?” Faye saw no need to be anything other than her blunt self in this moment.

Orvos turned to face her as he fought the temporal sickness. “The Shai is what’s up. You mentioned classified information. And while I respect and try to honor starfleet protocol, I am also able to realize when such instances must be bent. We need information that can get us and the Shai free of this phenomenon.”

It was a poignant statement on his part. He had no desire as of yet to order her to release information. But it was clear, he hoped, what he was insinuating. His eyes never left hers.

Shit. this wasn’t Faye’s first moral dilemma when it came to classified information and it did seem that when it appeared it involved a life or death situation. If it was just a general situation, Faye would respectfully decline to share. But this situation affected both crews, and that wasn’t even considering her husband was missing in plain sight.

Planted her hands on her hips, Faye began to pace the ready room. “I hope you understand what a difficult position you’re putting me in. I don’t have enough information to know if sharing it with you would help us, or the Shai. So I have to make a judgement call, and let me tell you, Intelligence does not take kindly to classification breaches. Even if we can justify my sharing more with you, I could still end up before a disciplinary hearing. And given my history, that would tank my chances of ever getting my own command one day. These are the stakes I am dealing with, Captain. And between us, I’ll breach this in a heart beat, but not out of some sort of loyalty to everyone here. We’re not there yet. But for Dag. Without a second thought. I just want you to be clear on what you’re actually asking me to do.”

Orvos allowed her to have her say on the topic. Her words were exceptionally revealing, though he withheld judgement for the time being. “You don’t like disciplinary hearings and you want a command someday. The fact of the matter is, there could be information that could help us figure out how to fix all of this.”

He paused as he looked to the ground in thought. He sighed as he looked back up at her. “Do you think I know every member of this crew? A good leader will consider putting their life on the line for people they hardly know. Its never easy, but it is indeed the mark of a good leader. The greatest captains are actually serving their crew, whether they know them or not. If having a command of your own some day is what you desire, I think the disciplinary hearing is the least of your worries. However, given how much I too hate to hear higher ups prattle on about how they would have followed the rules, let’s just consider this an order. Put their crosshairs on me. I’m not intelligence obviously, but I’m an interest to them I’m sure. Certainly the Athena always has been anyway.”

Orvos stopped there for the moment as he observed her reaction and listened to what she said.
