Maybe at some point she would acclimate to the sensation his touch caused on her skin but for Janna just accepted the tingles as a moment for her to process. NOt that she was complaining either. Concern for him radiated off her and Janna gazed at him, her grass green eyes intense. “When you say you have to return, how often and how do you even go about that? The whole thing with Kivon was unpredicted, wasn’t it?”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
Orvos nodded. “Kivon was definitely not on the agenda. It varies to be fair. I’ve gone months to years without having to go back. I have a place that I own, hidden away that nobody has been to. I’m an engineer naturally, so I’ve built there a shuttle of sorts to get me where I need to go. Not always easy. To be honest, it can be quite annoying. I only know to go when that drive hits me. It’s almost like an addiction. But it’s not one I particularly want. I spent way too much time in it, and now I must endure the consequences.”
There was a part of him that understood and accepted his fate, but there was another part that greatly disliked it.

Janna gazed at the lightning periodically striking the water before looking back at him. “Who else on this ship knows about this need to return to the Nexus?” She already suspected she knew the answer but it was important they establish this fact very clearly. After all, it wasn’t just him anymore. He was the captain of a starship, responsible for the lives of many.

Orvos sighed, confident it would not be an answer that was liked. “Currently on the ship? You’re the only other one. So many different faces and I’ve barely had time to get to know many of them, let alone trust them with such information.” He looked back to her, his hand reaching gently to brush a strand of hair out of her face.
His fingers brushed her skin, leaving a trail of warmth as they passed.
“You’ve been a good constant for me,” he added with a sheepish grin.

Janna smiled at him and reached out, resting her hand on the side of his face. “I’m glad for that,” she said softly. “But before I let you change the topic entirely you know you’re going to have to bring someone else into this. Doctor Grey, your first officer. This is not something you can just hide from them until the time comes for it to be an issue. You are responsible for the lives of many here. They depend on you, Orvos. They trust you to make sure you can still be the captain. I’m not saying you have to tell someone else today, and I know that it won’t be easy, but if it helps, I can be there. You tell your secret, I tell my own. Well, with Stone anyway. Grey obviously knows,” she said with a smirk.

She was right, even though he hated to admit it. The continuation of everything he had done for the ship depended on it. She was anchoring him here, and he found himself growing to like it. That didn’t mean he would like sharing what information he needed to with the appropriate parties.
“I know,” he sighed as he looked out to the random bolts of lightning in the distance. “We’ll have a scheduled appointment with Grey soon anyway. Perhaps then will be a good time to spring it on him?” He spoke with a the hint of a chuckle at the end.
Janna nodded. “Probably. It’s certainly convenient.”
“As for the first officer…I’ll handle that initially though she may want your input at some point given the other things you and I seem to be going through together.”
“Well, I actually haven’t shared it with her yet. To be honest, I’m still wrapping my mind around it and trying to figure out exactly what I can do, what I can tap into, as it were.” Janna blew out a breath. “I don’t mind, it, just so you know. But it has been… a big change.”
He sighed as other things dawned on him that he still had not yet conveyed. It was better now than never to bring up his strange circumstances involving the ship’s orion/klingon lounge manager. He had no idea how she would take it. But he hesitated, perhaps in fear at the unknown.

She reached over and rested her hand over his, slipping her fingers between his. It felt so natural, and truthfully she had wanted to do that long before the whole Nexus thing. But their induced intimacy made it feel much more like a need now. “What it is, darling? Talk to me.”

Orvos felt her fingers slink between his and he held onto her hand, his thumb naturally moving from side to side in a comforting gesture. “There is something you don’t know of, and I don’t honestly know how you’ll handle it. I am what you might call…fake married? There was this whole thing with Marishka and it got somewhat out of hand, but…” he stammered.
Janna blinked. “Fake married?” Wait, what?
He took another deep breathe and calmed his nerves, keeping his mind focused. “Marishka and I had happened to be on leave for a bit while the Athena was at starbase. To make a long story short, I kept a pair of klingons from attempting to whisk her away by claiming she and I were married. And we attempted to prove it through some…public display of affection…and while they were skeptical, they let it be. However, she convinced me that I apparently started something with that. We believe they may be observing us somehow. Some sort of informant or something. If they determine that it is not a legitimate marriage, they could attempt to take her once more when she’s not on the ship. So, we occasionally show up at each other’s quarters and have a meal together. While her pheromones make things difficult for me in the concentration department, especially when she’s being intentionally provocative, I would hope that by this point you’ve been made well aware of my lack of actual intimacy.” He looked her in the eyes and said a bit lower. “There’s no way we could have done what we just did earlier…to…with…each other…if I had already been doing things like that with someone else. It would have been much more physically exhausting. I just want you to know that. It’s all a ruse if you were even aware.”
Orvos paused and not only watched her expression but allowed his mind to reach out to hers gently and slowly. She would be able to sense the unique difference to how he spoke of Marishka in comparison to her. There was something much more with Janna than he had experienced with anyone else. Mentally, emotionally, and yes even physically.

Her brain was tripping along path of thought as she tried to work through this, and her face went through several expressions before she finally settled into a frown. “Oh, I have… questions,” she said, her understanding and compassion warring with her confusion. “Why was marriage the only way to dissuade them. She’s a member of the Athena’s crew and under our protection and thus the Federation’s. They have no legal right to touch her, regardless of whether they were following a custom or something. And how long is this charade supposed to last?”
