Khabal was in the shuttle bay checking on his ship. The scratches along the cleaving plates were almost gone.“You’re healing nicely.” he said to the ship that gave no response.
- Khabal
“Nanotech?” A man in Engineering gold with a PaDD in one hand asked casually, standing not close but not too far away that he would have to raise his voice to be heard. He was a Bajoran, clearly, and his question appeared more casual than inquisitive.
-Ros
Khabal looked over at the Bajoran and smiled warmly.
“Yes, a little, but also a lot of HSLA… I mean high strength living alloys. Spiral Nomad ships are a mix or organic and inorganic technologies.”
- Khabal
“Kind of like the Borg but without the Borginess and sleeker, then?” Ros asked but the question sounded rhetorical rather than inquisitive. Wandering towards Khabal he came to a stop and crossed his arms casually, looking at the ship. “I’m not unfamiliar with HSLA, I’ve seen it, or variations of it as I am sure the species that use it probably have their own versions, used on other ships. Your one is healing faster than my limited knowledge would lead me to expect though.”
Ros
Khabal gestured to the ship implying an invite for Ros to look more closely if he likes.
“It’s healing, and recharging, rather quickly here because it’s absorbing the ambient refined energy that leaks from your power systems. Energy that would otherwise be wasted as it dissipated into space. If I was in a hurry or outside of inhabited systems I’d park within the photosphere of the nearest red giant.”
Khabal fondly rubbed the side of the ship. His hand stood out stark against the total blackness of the ship’s skin, a black so deep that one would find it impossible to focus on the ship if one couldn’t see an edge for reference. The easiest edge to reference was the leading edge of the ship. Ros might be able to estimate it at an angle of seventeen degrees , thirty-four degrees inclusive, off the X/Y plane (chef’s knife sharp).
“But right now, we don’t need to stress the drives that much to maintain position on a star.”
Khabal patted the side of the ship before stepping back beside Ros.
“I am grateful for being allowed this small luxury.”
- Khabal
“Well we are nothing if not friendly,” the Bajoran grinned and looked at Khabal, the deep green of his eyes flickering with humor as he said it. “I trust you’ve been enjoying the amenities we have to offer? I take it you are a fair way from home, if you needed to drop by to recharge. What do you do if I may ask? I’m Ros, by the way. Akirel Ros but, the second name is my given one.” He picked at the fabric of his tunic for a moment and looked down slightly. “I’m the Engineering chief, nothing fancy.”
Ros
Khabal turned to Ros.
“By formal introductions, I am Khabal.” he said bowing to Ros, “Of my people, I am of the Quarm caste.” Khabal said with a friendly smile.
“Spiral Nomads technically have no home as you are probably referring to it. Home is wherever we are, Usually in the deep black between galaxies. And so far, I have seen this shuttle bay, the Captain’s ready room, your med bay, your counsellor, and your Parthenon. I have not seen anything else of your ship other than the corridors connecting them.” Khabal explained.
