“Let’s do it. Science let’s launch another probe into the rift.” stated the captain. “Away team if you can manage to send a message to the Shai bridge, that would be ever so helpful!”

Orvos then turned his attention to the open channel with Kingston. =/\=Janna, we’re hoping to relay a message to the Shai bridge to launch a probe. We’re hoping that we can get some better readings or understanding of our situation that way.=/\= He caught the slight slip up in name usage, but did not remark on it aloud. He simply let it slide as though nothing had happened as he waited for her reply.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

=/\=Understood, Captain,=/\= Janna said, her expression even. If she was surprised at all, she didn’t show it on her face or in her tone. =/\=We have some sort of detectable time dilation down here. It seems to be why I appear to be in Counsellor Jannson’s office and yet we can all communicate. The… phenomenon is something I can feel.=/\= She left it at that, knowing it would tell him enough

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Faye looked at Orvos, her stormy grey-green eyes intense like she understood something suddenly. Or maybe lots of little things. “The obvious solution is to simply turn off the tractor beam, but we don’t know what will happen if we do so with the away team over there, and we might lose our ability to communicate with the Shai’s crew.” It was giving them important information so as long as there was no obvious threat to ship or crew, it seemed a viable risk to Faye that they keep the tractor beam going.

A probe launched from each ship. As they collided, they froze in place and began to emanate a sickly green light. Reports came back to the Athena that the probe they had launched was moving forward in time at an alarming rate.

Immediately Liam’s voice came on over the open comms. =/\= Probes are moving forward in time at an alarming rate…=/\=

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

Orvos picked up Janna’s comment that she could feel it. He felt terrible knowing how she would be feeling very similar things to how he felt. He stood up slowly as the probes launched and the green hue manifested itself on the viewscreen. He watched intently as he allowed his senses to give him some sort of information. It was like keeping a vice on reality for him. When he let go, knowing that time was shifting all around, he was likely going to lose a bit himself to the surrounding effects.

Orvos sighed as stomach began to churn, almost like motion sickness while lost at sea. He stumbled back to his seat and sighed as he tried to keep the nausea from getting worse. He pushed past the feeling to speak out loud. “I’m getting a strange sense of things. Feels like…ugh…a tide. A tide that both us and the Shai are caught in. Looking at that probe and the results on our end, it would seem we are being pulled in by this ‘temporal tide’ while the Shai is…being pushed out.”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Faye stayed calm so the rest of the bridge didn’t panic, but worry was etched all over her face as she gazed at Legen. A part of her wanted to go run simulations, but she was needed elsewhere at this moment. They needed to end this. Now. =/\=Away team, this is Calloway. What would happen if we cut the tractor beam? You’d still have the shuttle to get back and you should probably do so sooner rather than later.=/\= They had started the tractor beam to stabilize the Shai but they needed to get their people out of there.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

=/\= “No, Hammor, that’s not going to help. It will cause physical distortions on the ship in motion. However, releasing the beam might slow it down, but it won’t stop. Since the crew isn’t here, but the ship is… it’s possible that whatever happened isn’t done happening.” =/\=

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

It was at that moment that Hammor’s life signs and comm signal ceased to register on the Athena’s systems.

Hammor, Ops… In The Future

=/\=Away team,=/\= declared Orvos, mustering what discipline he could to put the nausea aside. =/\=We aren’t registering Hammor’s lifesigns and comm signal. What’s happened?=/\=

Turning to the ops ensign, Legen added. “See if you can get a lock on the away team.”

Time seemed to be slipping by them as the situation grew further out of control. He maintained his composure, for the crew, with some practiced discipline. Though the anomaly had an effect on him, he tried to resist its effects as best he could.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Time was shifting around them but for Faye in that moment it froze along with her breath. There wasn’t even panic, but a complete lack of understanding. How could he just suddenly be gone. Her hand resting on the arm of her chair tightened, knuckles paling. She couldn’t catch her breath and just stared at the screen willing to hear something to the effect that there was a mistake, or interference. She just wanted to hear his voice, his reassurance. They were newlyweds, for crying out loud!

~Faye Calloway, CIO and wife in panic mode

=^=He’s gone,=^= Serena replied. =^=Vanished. He may be caught in the temporal wake, or sheer. Whatever you want to call it.=^= Her tone changed, shifting then as though she was addressing someone else near her. =^=Can we map the temporal fields and ride it out? I doubt we can get the Shai out of here as-is, and we’re dealing with forces a lot bigger than us at the moment.=^=

Orvos could feel it. The sudden numbing feeling of shock. The whole situation was chaotic and it seemed to only thicken. The feelings to time creating a sense of temporal nausea within him. The feelings of shock at potentially having lost someone close. The nerves of the bridge crew as they hurried to figure out a solution.

The El Aurian captain turned briefly to look at Faye, confirming what his mind already knew. He turned back to the viewscreen and stood up, his mind pushing the distractions aside as he focused intensely on the problem at hand.

The tractor beam was indeed something that could be effecting things. What if?…

“Commander Calloway may be on to something. Ops, the tractor beam, in its current use is speeding up this process it would seem. Maybe we can change that by reversing its polarity.”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

=^=That’s not a terrible idea. Commander Madison?=^=
