“Well, I stopped trying to guess at Command’s motivations a long time ago,” Ghubari said with a slight smirk that softened her intense features. “As for your other questions, let’s deal with them in turn. I want to know about you. Whatever you think I need to know for us to work together as best we can. Strengths, weaknesses especially. Share yours and I’ll share mine.”

Luka nodded. “Well, as for my strengths, I’ve always been told I have a great sense of humor!” She started with a small grin. “On a more serious note, I am a very curious person with a love of learning. I believe my experience outside of Starfleet gives me a unique point of view. I’m able to think outside of the box because of that different experience. I’m fairly organized and I am a people person, as they say. I do my best to make sure everyone is doing their best! Hehe. As per my weaknesses, I’m not much of a tactician. I’m also lacking in language skills… I’m still struggling a little in Federation Standard even after nine years among your people,” she let out a small sound similar to a whine. “I’m not the greatest at reading humanoid emotions. Like, body language and facial expressions. You all are for me like what the vulcans must be like to you. Except, the vulcans don’t actually have emotions, so in retrospect that’s not a very good comparison. Ah… I also have a habit of rambling. My last Commanding officer, Captain Shore, called it word vomit.”

“You’re not the first I’ve met,” Ghubari said wryly. “And be cautious, Vulcans do have emotions, they just are incredible trained and adept at containing to the point they have little bearing on their experiences. But they do have emotions, they just don’t experience them as others so.”

“I also don’t require you to be tactically-minded. You’ve got me and several others who are that way and we’ll all balance each other out.” Ghubari audibly exhaled slightly. “You have to understand that the old Athena was a small tactical destroyer. We purposefully needed to be able to think and fight ourselves out of tough situations. But this new ship is one of peace and exploration. It’s got a large contingent of civilians, including families and children. Hell, we’ve got schools and nurseries on board. It’s been a really big change for those of us that came from the Athena-C. Not only did our ship change, but the entire mentality behind its mission profile.”

Bracing her chin with her arm on the top of the sofa, she turned to look out at the stars. “I’ve been fighting for something for most of my life. And probably one of the greatest lessons I’ve had to learn is when to simply surrender.” Ghubari looked back to Luka. “But there are things I won’t compromise on. Loyalty is important to me; loyalty to Starfleet and to shared values. To the things that we are in Starfleet to uphold and defend, with our lives if necessary. I don’t ask my crew to take risks I would not, and so I then ask them to trust me”-she gestured to the both of them-“to trust us to make the best decisions we can. My strengths are those things, but also compassion and my personal Faith. The beliefs of my tribe are sometimes the only thing that keeps me centred in my life.”

“But I certainly have my weaknesses. I’m stubborn, Luka, sometimes to a fault. I don’t like being wrong, but if proven otherwise, I will admit it. And my tendency to fight as long as I can if great at times and fuels my tenacity, it can be my undoing too. I’m a proud woman, who has been typically private in the past. I’ve had to…adjust that in the face of my crew and all that we’ve been through. I couldn’t hold my pain secret while theirs was to evident to me. And so we have all learned to share just a little bit more.” She smirked. “Well… most of us anyway.”
