The Ensign stepped out of the turbolift, adjusting his uniform. He still wasn’t used to the Mythology class, but he would get used to it in time.He walked up to the doors to the counselor’s office and hit the chime. Then he stood there, waiting. He sighed and tried to loosen himself up before entering.

“Relax,” came a voice from close by, but slightly behind him. If he looked, he would see that the voice belonged to a tall Bajoran wearing the yellow of Engineering and the pips of a Lt Commander. Holding a tricorder and wearing the standard tool kit on his waist, the man appeared to be simply passing by. “They only start to ask tricky questions if you look nervous, its’ a Counselor thing. Smile, sit comfortably and enjoy the chat. Its’ not like the Academy Counselors where they are actively looking for weakness, you already passed, here they just want to say hello.”
The ensign startled and looked behind him. “Oh… Thanks for the advice.” He said, adjusting his uniform, and trying his best to relax.
He had paused for a moment as he spoke and then appeared to keep walking before pausing again and looking back to the Ensign. “Oh! Say Hi to the receptionist for me and compliment her smile. If you haven’t ever seen a room light up when someone smiles, wait till you see hers. Akirel Ros, Chief Engineer.” The Bajoran held out a hand in greeting.Lt Cmdr Akirel, CE
He extended his own hand in return. “Ensign George Haroon, I’m a science officer.” He said, although in hindsight his blue uniform probably gave that away. “And don’t worry, I’ll be sure to compliment her smile.”

There was in fact no chime, since on the large Mythology-classship, with so many crew to manage the needs of, the Athena was fortunate to have a mental health team. The Counselling Suite comprised of six offices, so when he approached the door, it simply slid open to admit him into the half-moon shaped space. The door faced the central reception desk where a Risian Ensign sat working away.

“Good, you do that. I’m sure she will appreciate it.” Ros grinned and gave the Ensigns hand an extra, firm shake. “Now go on in before they think you are scared or something.” With his other hand, Ros pointed to the open doorway that his distraction of the Ensign had clearly caused him to miss. Throwing a casual salute and smile the Risian’s way, Ros turned and continued on his way down the corridor.

Cherry smirked and almost shouted something at the CE but he disappeared before she could.
The Ensign blinked, realizing he had now stood in front of an open doorway for about 2 minutes thinking it was closed. He straightened up, tried to ease his tension more, and walked up to the Risian at the desk.
“Hello.” he said, mustering a relatively kind voice even through all the tenseness. “I am Ensign George Haroon, reporting for my psych exam.” This he said trying to sound professional, though he had to admit he clearly wasn’t very good at it.

The blond Risian smiled warmly. “Welcome to the Athena, Ensign Haroon. Let me just check…” she said, trailing off and looked at her console, her fingers moving swiftly. “Yes, here you are. Booked for your onboarding eval with Doctor Kingston. I’ll just check that she’s ready for you,” she said, moving from the arc-shaped desk.
A quick knock on the red door, and Cherry poked her head in, speaking in a soft voice. She returned a moment later and gestured towards the door. “She’s ready for you, go on in,” Cherry said.
Through the red door, Janna’s office was a modest space rather fitting the petite woman. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.
The petite psychologist was sitting in one of the arm chairs, reading a PaDD. She looked up and smiled, her grass green eyes vivid. “Come on in and make yourself comfortable, Ensign. Welcome to the Athena.” She tucked an errant chin length blond curl behind her ear before gesturing to the seating options.

The ensign looked around the room, taking it in. He liked the decorative scheme, it was much like the one his mother used to always use.
He stepped in and looked around for a moment longer before taking a seat. “Hi!” He said, in a friendly voice. Though you could, if you listened closely, hear a hint of tenseness behind his voice.

She offered him a warm smile, her presence giving off a soothing vibe. “I’m Janna Kingston, head of the department.”
“I could use a cup of coffee right now. Can I get anything for you while I’m up?” Kingston asked, as she rose and walked backwards towards her replicator.

He smiled back. “Ice cold water, please!” He said politely. He continued to look around the room. He quite liked it.
Ensign George Haroon (Science)
“That I can do,” Kingston. She ordered the water and her coffee and moved back to the sitting area, setting the water in front of Haroon and taking a seat in the armchair. She crossed her legs at the knee and took a sip. “So, Ensign, tell me what you’re excited about being on the Athena.”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
The ensign took his water and took a sip, also crossing his legs by putting one ankle on top of the other knee. “Meeting the new crew. And I’m excited for what science experiments I will perform.”
