It was a rare day both Faye and Daggum were off together, but today was one of them. After a nice morning of… calisthenics… Daggum had opted to take a shower after Faye, citing a need for “… hydration and recuperating.” So it was with him in the shower and Faye not that the comms in their quarters chirped and a voice said =/\= Bridge to Commander Hammor. Incoming comm from Orion. =/\=Unknown Caller
It was likely about his project and she could at least tell them to wait a few minutes, so Faye activated the comm and said, “Put it through.”
She moved over to the desk, the soft pale green oversized sweater sitting lopsided on her shoulders, exposing one. Faye was feeling pretty relaxed (as well she should) and given how out of sorts she had been feeling lately, it was a precious sensation. As she sat, Tess hopped into her lap, her fluffy grey tail batting her in the face. Faye pushed it away and laughed softly.

It was a long moment later when the comms connected. An Orion female was framed in the screen, but her face was unfamiliar. A confused look passed over her as she said =/\= No, no. =/\= and cursed loudly. =/\= Send me back to that other one. I want to speak to Lieutenant Commander Daggum Hammor, not whoever in the nine hells you are. =/\=
Unknown Caller
Faye folded her arms on the desk, brows quirked. =/\=He currently occupied. But I might be able to help. Who are you?=/\= The amount of frustration from the woman was a little excessive, but then again Faye had no idea how the woman’s day was going or what sort of rigamarole she might have gone through to get to Daggum.
~Faye
The woman snorted derisively and said =/\= I doubt that. Go fetch him, now. Unless of course your hourly rate has been… used up. =/\= and she looked back over her shoulder as she covered the mic with her hand and said something.
Unknown Caller
Oh, wow! It took all of Faye’s willpower not to just shout obscenities back at the woman. She knew all too well what it was like to be categorized and depersonalized by an Orion woman. Different contexts, of course, but that feeling of being deemed less-than was overwhelming. Her eyes narrowed as storm clouds rolled through them. =/\=No, actually I won’t do that. Now, if you want to talk to Daggum and not have me hang up on you in the next few seconds, you’ll tell me who you are. Because frankly, at this point I don’t care and you’re not worth my time.=/\=
~Faye
A look of smug superiority spread across the woman’s face as she looked back and smiled. =/\= You have fire. I hope you charge him extra for that. Now go get him, and tell him his mother is calling. =/\=
Daggum’s ??Mother??
She blinked. Say what? Nooo way. It wasn’t that Dag didn’t have parents technically, but that they were nonexistent to the point of likely not being still alive. Apparently they were both mistaken. =/\=I don’t care if you’re the most powerful person in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants combined. Refer to me as a prostitute one more time and this call is over? Because even if I were to believe you supplied half his genes, that does not make you his mother. And in his life I take precendece as well I should, as his wife.=/\=
Faye leaned in, her expression dark. =/\=Now that we have that sorted out, you tell me why the hell you’re calling, and now of all times. I’m not just going to go dump this on him because you think you’re owed something. Tell me your name and what the hell you want with Daggum.=/\=
~Faye
The woman leaned back and said =/\= My son would never be so… so… cheap… as to tie himself to a petty human. Fetch him. And if you don’t, I’m quite sure that Admiral Gallren of Star Fleet will be more than happy to order him to take the call. =/\= Gallren was a known factor to almost any advanced officer in Star Fleet. Rumors abounded about the man. Petty, vindictive, wholly corrupt, and with a penchant for making people on his bad side miserable to the point of resignation… and in some cases suicide. But he had very influential friends and nothing had ever been proven. But circumstances led credence to the rumors. The Admiral had been removed from almost all projects and departments, and now existed in a kind of ‘limbo’ where he had authority but no actual responsibility. So he spent his time tormenting those in his sights and trying garner favor with whomever might pay for an opulent meal.
Daggum’s ??Mother?? (With Connections??)
Oh, there was going to be some digging on her part. Faye leaned in with unbridled hostility. =/\=I don’t take kindly to threats and since you have no idea who I am, I’d be very careful who you continue to insult. I know people too. Now, I will go tell Daggum that he has a call but it will be up to him if he deigns to take it.=/\= Without a pause, Faye put the call in standby and realized that her thighs hurt.
“Ow!” She looked down and saw that Tess was equally agitated and had dug her claws into Faye. The cat growled. “Yeah, I get it, but do you mind taking it out on her?” she said, carefully moving the grey and white ball of fluff to the floor.
Moving over to the bathroom, Faye stepped in and leaned against the wall. “Dag? There’s a call…” Uggh, did she have to sound so worried and equally angry?
“Can it wait? I’m washing my hair.” he said with a chuckle and then stuck his bald head out of the shower and said “Who is it?”
Faye waited till he met her gaze. “Keep in mind you are under no obligation to take this call, no matter if she did just threaten me with Admiral Jackass Gallren. Apparently, your petty Human of a wife is to cheap to be allowed to even know her name, but an Orion woman is on the line claiming to be your mother. I think you know me well enough to know just how much willpower it took not to call her a zillion nasty names.”
~Faye
Daggum blinked. He blinked again and a scowl crossed his face. “My mother? Well that’s some bullshit. Obviously someone is screwing with me.” He ducked in and rinsed off quickly and then stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel. “Probably somebody from the Assistance Project looking for a shakedown.” he grumbled. He dried off and then went 8n the bedroom and pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt with a human man in some kind of red devil mask and skin tight red suit swinging metal sticks with cable coming out of them while doing some kind of acrobatic martial art movement. At the top it read “DARDEVIL, The Man Without Fear”.
Daggum walked into the living room and sat down at the computer, the scowl still on his face. He keyed the comms and the woman’s face appeared and she smiled broadly. =/\= This is Lieutenant Commander Daggum Hammor of Star Fleet. Who are you and what are you calling? =/\= he asked in his ‘I’m-Gonna-Make-Your-Life-Hell voice he reserved for Quartermasters who tried to ness with his load-ins.
The woman’s smile never faltered, and her tears brimmed with tears. She reached for the screen as if to touch him, but pulled back hesitantly. A single gold tear escaped her eye and rolled slowly down her cheek. =/\= Mar… my baby… it really is you! =/\= and she sobbed softly. =/\= All this time… I never knew you lived. =/\= and more sobbing that spilled over into huge sobs and crying. Daggum leaned back and crossed his arms on his chest and said =/\= Ma’am, I don’t know who you are or what you are doing, but I do not know you. Are you sure you have the right person? =/\= She nodded emphatically as she lifted a white cloth to her face and wiped away her tears and wiped her nose. =/\= No no… I’m sure. I have spent years looking for you. I know you are my son. =/\= Daggum looked over at Faye and gave her a This woman is crazy look. He looked back and said =/\= Well, ma’am. I sincerely doubt that, but I have to tell you that your word on something like this isn’t going to cut it. You’ll need to provide a DNA sample for comparison. And you’ll have to have it drawn and testing somewhere that isnt Orion. =/\= She nodded and said =/\= I already did that! I contacted a an Admiral and he has been most helpful. Here, I’m sending you the results now. =/\= There was a delay, but the file arrived and Daggum opened it. It showed a lab report from Star Fleet Medical from a month prior. It showed that Daggum’s blood was a maternal- branch match of a sample given by one Mallaua Ch’frej. Daggum looked at it and then said =/\= Give me a moment. =/\= and he nuted the .mic and looked at Faye. “This can’t be right… can it?”
