“Man… did Cochrane program this himself? This is so freaking detailed. I didn’t think he was capable.” a familiar voice said. Daggum was walking up the path, smiling at her. “I’m guessing you got lost in here and didn’t look at the time. Two hours and you hadn’t come back yet, I thought I’d come check on ya.” and he took a seat on the bench next to her. “Just… wow. It’s exactly like the Manhattan. Even smells like it.”

Daggum

Faye blinked and frowned as she watched her husband. She had lost track of time. For anyone else that wouldn’t be a cause for concern, but for Faye it could mean something different, something that was wrong. “Yeah, it does,” she said, looking back over the view. On the Manhattan it would shift and change as the trees grew a bit taller and different areas filled in more. But this would remain exactly as she remembered it. A good memory.

She looked at him again, her eyes filled with worry. “Has it really been two hours?”

“Almost.” and he put an arm around her. “I wouldn’t worry about it, though. This is something… really special to you Faye. And you left it behind and across the galaxy. Honestly… we’ll probably never see it again, except right here. And there is a lot of you in this. The grass and trees and flowers and paths… and there’s me.” and he nodded to the mushroom house. “This is kinda where you and I began… the second time. It’s a lot to take in. And this is where you would go for peace. We’ve been going pretty hard and constant for a while now… I think your brain needed a rest, and what better place to do it.”

Daggum

She leaned into him, snuggling into the crook of his arm. “Maybe. I know I do need this place and I thought about maybe trying something in one of the arboreta but.. it’s not the same. They are green spaces that are already completed. I feel like an interloper imposing myself on it.”

Faye sighed. “Maybe my losing track of time isn’t a big deal, but it worries me. Not knowing when time passes is a symptom. So… just keep on eye on me, okay? Let me know if it happens again and then we can do something about it. I’m not expecting my symptoms to be nil right now but I don’t want to be surprised by them, you know?”

“I know it, and I’ll keep a solid eye on you. Especially certain parts of you.” he replied with a soft laugh as he pulled her close. “Its gonna be okay, Faye. Promise.”
