What science detected could best be described as a ripple. There were more residual chronitons and space itself… just didn’t look right.
-GM
“Maintaining distance from vessel, Commander. We’re not running directly at her, but if we have interference with Chronitons out there, maybe we ought to come to a complete stop?” stated Meadows. While he figured maintaining distance was good enough, a complete stop wouldn’t be out of the norm for safety concerns.
-Lt. Matthias Meadows, Helm
“Let’s hold this position,” she said, not liking the shape of things just yet. “Let’s get a better picture of the area around that ship first. Full spectrum scanning. Last thing we need is to get sucked into a temporal anomaly or chronometric distortion that sends us back to the dinosaurs or into the thirty second century because we hit a tripwire or stepped in a hole.”
“Let’s queue up a probe too, in case we want to get a look at it from another angle,” she added.
Lt Cmdr Stone, XO
“Understood, Commander. Prepping probe now.” the big Orion said.
Liam had just arrived with a soft hiss of the doors. Silently, he walked over to his his nephew’s position. Joseph was already moving to a new seat and letting him settle in. The mention of chronitons had stirred a fire beneath his heels and hasten his pace. Numerous theories already rushed through his head. From time loop to a rip of time, his experience had caused him to believe it was all possible. One just needed to the right conditions to spark it.
Pushing aside the distractions, the CSO started the scan as the XO requested.
-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.
A more detailed scan showed that this “ripple effect” previously noted was actually an echo. It was the same place, just ever so slightly different. The ship had travelled out of this phenomenon, mostly drifting as no engine trails were present.
-GM
“According to the scans, this ‘ripple effect’ is an echo of the same place, but slightly different. The ship has traveled out of the phenomenon and there’s no engine trails so it might’ve drifted out.” Liam relayed the information as soon as he got it, adding in his own thoughts on the matter.
Meanwhile, in the Security department, not too far away from Bridge, Shock had received a missive from the captain, requesting a tactical posting to the Bridge. He decided to send Lt Ducante, as the most experienced junior officer in Security to Bridge. He was sure Mr Ducante was up to it.

A few moments later, Hammor said “Probe ready launch and standing by.”
Hammor, Ops
“Outstanding,” she said as she rose to her feet. “Mister Madison, can you get us a representation of the event horizon of this thing so we can see it. And how close that vessel is to it. And maybe a read on when this thing is from?”
Madison would detect that the phenomenon was somewhat small, only a 100 meters or so wider or taller than the long, cigar shaped craft that had emerged from it. Based on star patterns from the other side, it could be estimated that the ship came from one of several time periods, the mid 19th century, the latter 22nd century, or the 26th century. This exact Star pattern appeared approximately every 400 years.
Turning back to Commander Hammor, she gave him a nod. “Orbital scan, keep it on standby. Depending on what Commander Madison can advise us about it, we may still send it inside.”
Hearing more orders, Liam scanned the incoming data.
“According to readings, it’s only a 100 meters or so wider or taller than the craft that came out. Based on star patterns from the other side, there’s several time periods that fit. Mid 19th century, latter 22nd century, or the 26th century.”
Liam frowned as the numbers formed a pattern, “It seems that it appears every 400 years, if I’ve done my math right.”
Serena’s frown matched Liam’s. So far as she knew, there were no such shipbuilding capabilities that matched Federation design during Earth’s 19th Century. The Federatino didn’t exist then. 22nd Century was possible, but unlikely. That left the future.
The phenomenon was no longer emitting chronitons, but it wasn’t exactly stable. It had the impression of a tear made accidentally rather than a purposeful maneuver.
And then there was the matter of the ship and it’s condition. Where was it from? What was it doing here? Was it brought here, or did it venture here? For what purpose? Where were the crew, if any? Many questions floated through her mind.

-GM
Hammor launched the probe and set its course for an orbit of the ‘tear’ and it’s accompanying vessel.
Hammor, Ops
-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.
Serena watched the readouts and studied the ship as the crew worked quickly. “Mister Madison, do you think we can poke a tractor beam in there and haul that thing out without making it worse,” she asked. The last thing they needed to do was make the rift worse, or create some sort of temporal issue that … well had it’s own sort of problems.
Serena reached up to tap her combadge. =^=Bridge to Legen=^=

Orvos had been on his way to the turbolift, making his rounds about the ship. The Athena was home for him now, similar to what the Aurora had once been for him. He had allowed himself to feel those feelings again…for now. He treated his ships like an intimate woman. He took care of her needs and always made sure to get his eyes over every inch of her when he had the moment.
He stood now, waiting for an available lift when he got the call from the bridge. =/\=Legen here.=/\= came his reply.
Meanwhile, Faye watched the data coming in and ran the ship design through the Starfleet database using her Intelligence clearance. This opened up levels of database access that wouldn’t normally pop up from a general scan of the library.

The probe sent feedback from closer scans of the ship, that determined three things about it.
- Unoccupied
- The registration, too faint to be detected on the Athena due to a minor electrical fault, was USS Shai NCC-992144
- It was drifting far enough out from the phenomenon that acting upon one would not necessarily affect the other
-GM
Faye ran the registry through the database to see if they would get a hit and more information. She doubted it, but she was going through a process of elimination.
~Faye Calloway, CIO
The only USS Shai to come up was under an NX registry, and had a 3 month service history from 2374.

((small typo correction after talking with Sage. Carry on.))
“Give me a moment, I’m processing the data.” Liam replied as he brought up the probe’s data, spending a few moment on it.
“Based on the probe’s information, they have drifted far enough apart that affecting one shouldn’t influence the other.”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO
=^=Captain, we’ve encountered a derelict ship adrift near a space-time anomaly. As close as we can assess, it seems benign and stable for now, both the ship and anomaly. It seems the vessel may be from one of three time periods based on what starshots we can get through the event horizon of the anomaly. The vessel itself is relatively clear of it and by our scans is empty, abandoned. It seems safe enough to extract the vessel so we can board it and investigate. With your leave, I was planning to do exactly that once you were up here, sir.=^=
Lt Cmdr Stone, XO
The lift had arrived while his first officer spoke. He stepped in and directed its trajectory to the bridge. It was quite the situation they found themselves in. Space-time anomaly. A part of him wanted to be the one leading the party, but he had a feeling that his new first officer would object. It was a catch 22 for him. One hand, his presence could be advantageous should any sort of strange temporal anomalies start occurring again. On the other hand, El Aurians were susceptible to a form of time sickness. It was that very notion that gave him the edge, but could prove to be problematic if it made him feel to uneasy.
The doors opened. Captain Orvos Legen stepped onto the bridge seconds after Serena had finished her report. He then strolled toward his first officer as he spoke. “I would suggest leading the party myself, but something tells me you’ll just site regulations to me?” he said with a curious eyebrow.
She gave him an apologetic look. “You know the regs, and the reason for them. But you’re also free to ignore them, being Captain and all.”
“Commander, you have the away team,” he declared in resignation as he settled into the command seat of the Athena.
-Captain Orvos Legen, CO
The redhead nodded. “Very well. We’ll head over as soon as we have that ship clear for a clean transport.” Turning to the other crew in turn, she continued. “Commander Ros, Madison on me. Lieutenant Shock feel free to bring another of your people, just in case. We’ll rendezvous in Transporter Room 1.” She turned back to Orvos. “If it seems clear, I’ll let you know, in case you still want to come over,” she murmured just low enough for him to hear.
Hammor turned and said “Request permission to join the Away Team, Commander. I know a lot about older ships, sir… and if it’s from the future none of us will know it anyway.”
Hammor, Ops
Serena nodded. “I was hoping you’d come,” she said with a quick smile. “Could use an all-around hand, and you’re still certified for away missions, right?” She didn’t even wait for the answer to the positive or negative. A good operations officer kept up on their certifications and regs as a matter of course. She trusted Hammor was no different.
“Huh. That’s odd,” Calloway chimed in. “Registry says it’s the USS Shai, NX registry. Only in service for 3 months in 2374, which doesn’t fit our three windows. I’m hunting for the last records of the vessel. It might give us a hint what they assumed happened.” Her guess was MIA and the anomaly played a role, but this was the same year as the Dominion War going on. Faye suppressed a small shudder pushing her own memories of those days as far away as she could. They were not useful right now.
~Faye Calloway, CIO
Similarly her mind drifted back to the Dominion War, drawing out a shudder. She was still just a little girl then, but those days had left their mark.
Serena headed for the nearest lift with long, ranging strides, resisting the urge to double-time it. There was no need to be in a rush, so far as they could tell. Slipping intot he lift she reached up and tapped her combadge. =^=Stone to Doctor Grey.=^=
=^=Can you have a medical team on standby to beam over. We’re not picking up anybody over on the other ship, but the sensors could be lying, or we may need to police bodies.=^=
