Janna smiled at him. “I think you’re more than able to complete your duties, that was never truly in question. But thank you for trusting me enough to hold space for you. I know it was a hard moment in your life to confront, but I think we both know that the journey you’re on now that you opened that door is a worthwhile one.”

“I agree, doctor Kingston,” he replied. “This meeting became more meaningful than I had initially thought.”

She gestured to the door. “Book an appointment with Cherry at Reception. And until then, be observant about the ship, its crew and how you find yourself relating to it, or not, whichever might be true.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he said, while rising to his feet.

He walked to the door. Just as he was about to leave. he turned around to Dr Kingston again, gave her the Vulcan salute.

“Live long and prosper,” he said before leaving.

“Peace and long life,” Janna said as he left, smiling at his back. It was the first time since she had discovered her newfound abilities that she could connect how they functioned with her skills and experience and put it all to use in a cohesive and purposeful way.

It sure felt good.
