Leaving the debriefing, Faye’s instinct was to double-time it so that she could put distance between everyone and herself. But she knew it was pointless, because either way Daggum would find her. She could already see the questioning look on his face and she tried to not grumble to herself. She knew she had gotten a bit testy but she had bene on the ship all of one hour and people were trying to force her to discuss stuff she couldn’t.She moved down the corridor at a slower pace, waiting for the large presence of her husband to inevitably draw near.
“I know, you don’t have to say it,” Faye grumbled.

A large green hand fell lightly on her shoulder and Daggum said “Ok, but you know I’m going to anyway.” as he fell into step beside her. “You gotta take breath, Faye. These people don’t know you and haven’t dealt with you before. And they are good people. I know you were nervous and I know they asked some things that you couldn’t answer, but there was a better way of saying ‘no’… right?”

There was a tightness in her gut she wasn’t exactly sure how to explain just now. “I know,” she said as they kept walking.
Faye stopped abruptly and forced out a breath, gazing up at Daggum. “I don’t like my reaction but it was Luke all over again. The pushing, the digging for details even after I said I couldn’t share them. I wasn’t trying to be adversarial then, or now, but I don’t like being pushed into a corner, even if it’s purely out of curiosity.” It was hard to admit how much her experience with a former COS of the Manhattan had gotten under her skin, even beyond the strange personal events. Professionally he treated her like the traitor so many people assumed someone like her would be. Here on the Athena she was in a role that people assumed made her untrustworthy. All she wanted was to be given some benefit of the doubt, just as she had walked into that room to give them, to give this whole damn new situation she was in.

Daggum put a hand on each shoulder and said “Go talk to them. Face to face. Explain where you are coming from. Most CIO’s never do that. Maybe if you step out of the normal, they may start to think that you are different form all the other one’s they’ve dealt with. And I know you are different from them.” and he grinned. “Because I don’t think other CIO’s are ticklish behind their knees.”

She arched a brow. “Careful there dude. That’s classified information you’re revealing. That could get you into very deep trouble,” Faye deadpanned.
She sighed. “Fine. I’ll got talk to them. Later. I have my other check-ins to do today first but before that how about you show my our quarters?” Their honeymoon had been a good trial run but this was the place they would live together. It was different, right? And she knew he got Tess settled already so she thought it was time she did too.

“You got it. And all your things are there already. One of the perks of being in good with the Ops Chief.” Daggum said with a smile.
The lift took them form Deck 1 where the Conference Room was to Deck 4 where the Department Head quarters were. He led her down the passage until they came to a door marked simply 4/5 Alpha. The door slid open to reveal a large room with a door off to either side. “So since we are both Department Heads, we each are allowed a DH room. So I asked and between Ops and Engineering we just made those two rooms one. Besides… they design those rooms for human-sized people. It was corwded with just me in mine.” and he chuckled. “We have a bedroom, bathroom with a hot tub, living area and small kitchenette. No stove or oven; but we do have a two place induction burner, cold storage, and a sink. I’ve stocked dishes and the fridge.”
Faye stepped in and looked around, a soft smile on her face. “All we need is my pizza oven,” she said, tossing a glance over shoulder. “I did bring it you know,” she added with a gleam in her eyes.
The room they were in had a large couch and low table in front flanked by two large chairs big enough for Daggum to sit in comfortably. Along the walls were transparent frames holding old comic books, but with space left open for Faye. The kitchen area was partially separated by an island with the sink. The door to the left led to the bedroom and bathroom, the door to the right was locked. “That’s a secure comm station. Didn’t make sense you having to run halfway through the ship to take a call.”

Tess lifted her head from her cat bad, took note of Faye and promptly went back to sleep. “Nice to see you too,” Faye said with a chuckle before she continued circling the room, taking in the details.
She turned back to Daggum, a mix of emotions in her eyes. “You really did think of everything, didn’t you?” There was room for her yoga stuff to be stashed out of the way too and room enough to roll out her mat. There was wall space for their mystery painting from Nadine as well. She knew he was changing things in his life too, but perhaps this was the most obvious sign of it as well.
