Leaving the debriefing, Faye’s instinct was to double-time it so that she could put distance between everyone and herself. But she knew it was pointless, because either way Daggum would find her. She could already see the questioning look on his face and she tried to not grumble to herself. She knew she had gotten a bit testy but she had bene on the ship all of one hour and people were trying to force her to discuss stuff she couldn’t.

She moved down the corridor at a slower pace, waiting for the large presence of her husband to inevitably draw near.

“I know, you don’t have to say it,” Faye grumbled.

A large green hand fell lightly on her shoulder and Daggum said “Ok, but you know I’m going to anyway.” as he fell into step beside her. “You gotta take breath, Faye. These people don’t know you and haven’t dealt with you before. And they are good people. I know you were nervous and I know they asked some things that you couldn’t answer, but there was a better way of saying ‘no’… right?”

There was a tightness in her gut she wasn’t exactly sure how to explain just now. “I know,” she said as they kept walking.

Faye stopped abruptly and forced out a breath, gazing up at Daggum. “I don’t like my reaction but it was Luke all over again. The pushing, the digging for details even after I said I couldn’t share them. I wasn’t trying to be adversarial then, or now, but I don’t like being pushed into a corner, even if it’s purely out of curiosity.” It was hard to admit how much her experience with a former COS of the Manhattan had gotten under her skin, even beyond the strange personal events. Professionally he treated her like the traitor so many people assumed someone like her would be. Here on the Athena she was in a role that people assumed made her untrustworthy. All she wanted was to be given some benefit of the doubt, just as she had walked into that room to give them, to give this whole damn new situation she was in.
