“Oh hell, no but I dated a guy once that was. Feng shui is supposed to be all about the positive flow of energy but it should be more about a positive footpath at two am when heading to the bathroom,” Brooklyn let out a deep laugh. “I can not tell you how many times I stubbed my toe on something in the middle of the night. What I can tell you is one day he announced that my dedication to feng shui was putting out a lot of negative energy. I asked him if he really wanted to see negative energy. We subsequently broke up but know what,” she looked at Janna.
“What?” Kingston
“He was right. The second I feng shuied his arse out of my life things became a lot more positive. Are you into this spiritual stuff? If so I got a guy on Beliaiorn V that makes the most amazing incense. If you are interested let me know. It’s cheaper in bulk so I can make sure I can snag you some from the distributor when we send out the next shipment.”

Janna chuckled. “I’m more of the rational researcher type but I will admit that over the years I’ve experienced enough strange and inexplicable things that I can allow a degree of mystery from the Universe into my life. So if you have amazing incense and want to share, by all means, I’ll be glad for it. Even if I end up keeping it for my quarters,” she said with a grin.
Gazing over at the glass ball, Janna was thoughtful for a moment. “Either way, that glass ball is a puzzle, I’m sure of it. My friend Sam likes to send me one every now and again. They’re usually the kind that take weeks or even months to figure out. It’s his way of saying he was thinking of me.”

“Is he Vulcan?” With a name like Sam odds were against it but sending mystery puzzles to show affection definitely sounded like something a Vulcan would do.
Janna laughed. “No, Sam is very Human, just with an odd sense of humour. That and he knows me too well. I love myself a good mystery.”
“So if this is not some gigantic paperweight or a way to fumble up a nighttime intruder what do you think it is?” Brooklyn was intrigued by the idea this clear globe did something besides take up space.
“Well, I fully expect it to be decorative while and after I work on the puzzle, but beyond that, who knows,” Kingston said, moving closer and eyeing the weighty object.
“Oh oh is it a message that he suddenly took up Orion bocci ball? Were you two into sports?”

She chuckled again. “Not really, not unless you consider people-watching one, which I kind of do.” Janna stood back upright and planted her hands on her hips. “I have a feeling that staring at it won’t get me anywhere.” Her grass green eyes suddenly lit up. “Oh you tricksy man,” she murmured and shook her head before looking at Halsey again. “Most people don’t know this but I started out in the Academy as a scientist. If I know him he’s forcing me to pair my psychology research skills with the other fields I was interested in. I think I’m going to have to go to the science department!”

“Could I tag along? I am pretty sure I got a box of beakers I can drop off on our way there. You kinda have me intrigued and I would love to live vicariously through you right now,” Halsey let out a laugh. Janna was turning out to be far more fun than she thought. Not that she had any real preconceived notions about anyone. She had only been on the Athena a hot minute. In fact, she was organizing the supply areas with more enthusiasm than her own quarters. Luckily with her position as Quartermaster, Halsey got to me virtually everyone on a ship and for the most part, people were generally happy to meet her because she always had something they wanted. It felt good to bring people happiness when they were so far from home or a happy thought from a friend that was far away.
