Daggum chuckled and said “Bunch of Engineering nerds and booze. What do you think? It was a drunken orgy of arguing over system design flaws and solutions, trying to build the tallest beer glass tower with the fewest glasses, and getting really quiet when attractive women we didn’t know tried to hit on us.” and he laughed. “Now, I will be honest. My formative years weren’t like most of my class-mates. So I wasn’t oblivious or nervous to what was happening. I also had zero interest in hook-ups or one night stands. So… I did what any good classmate who could hold their liquor would do. I made sure that my friends had a great night, got to do things they had always wanted to to do, and had enough memories to look back on the night fondly.” He tooka drink and then laughed as he swallowed. “I even managed to get two of them to finally admit they liked each other, and had since second year. They’re married now… both on the same station and loving life. I get a card on their kids birthdays.” and he smiled and drank before grabbing a wing that had just arrived.
Daggum
“Aww, Uncle Daggum,” Janna said with a grin. “I love those kinds of stories. Sometimes I can admit I’m a hopeless romantic. But the story of that night tells me that I’ve been right about you: you’re an honourable man, Daggum. For better or worse. And Faye is lucky to have you on her side.”
Daggum half-smiled. “I don’t know about ‘honorable’, but I stick by those that stick by me.” he said and looked at Janna. “That includes you, just so you know.” and he winked and took a drink.
Janna grinned. “Fine, exceptionally loyal. Better?” To be honest it was nice to have another person on her side. And he knew exactly what her work looked like as well, given he had watched her in action with Viyara. Few got to see that kind of intense therapy unless they were the patient’s themselves. In a way it was something of a relief. She could say she was having a hard day and he would understand without the detail she likely couldn’t share.
“Have you two talked about whether you want kids or not?” she asked curiously. Somehow the image of the man with a tiny babe in arms was rather fitting, but she didn’t want to tread anyway uncomfortable.
~Janna
“We have talked about it a bit, but I think we have some time before we start trying. Neither of our jobs really lends themselves to raising children at the moment. But the future is unwritten and we can only take it as it comes.”
Daggum
“I think you’ll make a great father,” she said with a slow nod. “Consider that both my professional and personal opinion all rolled into one.” Janna was sincere too.

Daggum smiled and said “Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. But someday I hope we can put that hypotheses to the test.” and he took a drink. He looked at Janna and said “What about you? Anything happening on the romance front?”
Daggum
Her usual temptation was to obfuscate, since her love life was a non-event and hadn’t been for quite a few years. Or rather it had been annoyingly one-sided. But as Daggum gazed at her, heat touched Janna’s cheeks. “I, uh… well…”
She shook her head. “Yes, something is happening. Something I’ve wanted and only had recent confirmation that it was mutual.” She leaned forward. “You and Faye went a long time without even talking to each other. How did you know that you should call her that day?”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
Daggum grinned, but hid it behind the glass as he took a drink. Setting it down, he was (mostly) serious. “I just did. I realized that she was who I wanted to be with. Or… at least try to be with. I had zero idea if she felt the same. And it had been a year since we had talked at all, so I didn’t even know if she would remember me. But… I just took a breath and dove in. Sometimes you just have to take that leap. Nothing worth having doesn’t come with risk.” He took another drink and then said “So? Tell me about them.”
Daggum
Janna also sipped on her drink and took a deep breath. “Well, I can say that I’m very glad I have a department of counsellors, because otherwise it would put me in an impossibly awkward position, since any of the crew are potentially my patients.” So that was hint one, it was (not unsurprising) someone on the crew. She wasn’t sure she should even say anything at all, but the reality was that she had no sounding board to help her figure it all out, and Daggum was, as he had been very clear about, her friend.
Folding her arms on the table, she leaned in. “Okay, so before the last crazy mission of our, I was… abducted. Long story short, I was in a place few people go to. Not unlike another realm or dimension. I can’t say anything more than that.” Kingston blew out a breath. “Anyway, I’ve had feelings for someone for a long time and we’ve had these… moments of connection but they never seemed to want to… reach the place I was at. But in the aftermath of this event, I’ve changed. I’ve been changed. Physiologically. And in the process of noticing and trying to understand what’s happening, we’ve connected. Properly.” She couldn’t help the grin on her face. “I don’t fall for people, Daggum. Usually. Maybe it’s being the constant student of behaviour, but here and now I want to do what you’ve suggested and toss caution to the wind and risk it all. I’ve never felt like this before and I don’t know how to think about it. It’s certainly not rational,” she said with a laugh.
