It had been a little bit since the Athena had shifted course, making best speed for the presumed last-known coordinates for the Montezuma. What came next was likely to be a rescue or salvage operation. Hopefully, it was only a little of the former. The worst-case was an ambush and firefight. Ambushing and taking on a Mythology-class, with a solid crew like the Athena? Well, that was a hard task.In the interim though, there wasn’t much to be done while under way. Better to get more business taken care of. So it was that Miss Stone took a look at the duty roster, and took a look at Lt. j.g. Kingston’s itinerary and slotted herself in when there was an appointment slot available. So it was that she stepped off the lift just next to the counseling center and made her way in to the front. “Lieutenant Commander Stone, signing in form my appointment,” she said, stopping at the reception desk.
“Take a seat and you’ll be called in shortly.”
Nodding, she dropped into a chair and pulled out her PADD and went back to reviewing crew member files and the duty roster. She wasn’t going to retain everything, obviously. But there was so much to catch up on. She at least needed to be familiar the general operations, crew, culture of the ship, and the current ongoing activities and operations.

Inside the half-moon shaped space, the door faced the central reception desk where the Risian Ensign Stone just spoke with sat. On either side of the entrance were a few chairs that faced the six doors behind the reception desk, each a different color. These were the offices. The red door slipped open and a petite woman with blond curls appeared and Stone would recognize her from the personnel reports as Kingston. She approached the ensign at the desk and there was an exchange of smiles and PaDDs in a seamless set of motions that were likely routine.
Turning and taking in the waiting area, she smiled. “Commander Stone? Janna Kingston. Come on in and we’ll have ourselves a chat,” she said, gesturing to the offices.
The wait was short indeed, only a few minutes. As Janna greeted her she nodded and slipped to her feet, cutting across the reception area with long, ranging strides. She was a solid fourteen centimeters taller than the counselor, with the build of a career security officer, athletic, well-built with fiery red hair that spilled down past her shoulders in waves.
Stepping through the red door, Janna’s office was a modest space rather fitting the petite woman. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.
Serena took in the space quickly, assessing the it tactically first, routes and positions of everything for dynamic entry. It wasn’t a very big room. Limited penetration would do the job except for the deadspace behind the desk. It was fast enough to be completely automatic and unconscious. But then she seemed to see the room, not as a set of objects and obstacles, but their social context. The carpet, the rug, the chairs, the painting, the picture frame. The place was almost Spartan compared to some counselors, but it showed more personality than someone who valued only utility. Then again everything likely had a purpose. The whole design was clinical but meant to be welcoming and inviting. Professional.
“Can I get you anything? I’m eager for another cup of coffee myself,” Janna said.

The question pulled her out of her momentary assessment. “Uh, sure. Lady Grey tea, hot, ten milliliters of honey added.” Moving over to the seating area she dropped onto the couch tucking one booted foot under her. The couch was the most comfortable spot for her, at least for the moment. “My apologies for the suddenness. Captain Wallace was called away on another mission rather suddenly. Mister Orvos has been bumped to Captain and I’m his replacement. A lot of stuff is up in the air, but protocol and proceedure… you know how it is.”
