Stone stepped into the lift. =^=Sickbay. Priority, no stops.=^= The lift system gave a quiet set of beeps in acknowledgement and dropped, whisking the XO across the ship. Normally, she wouldn’t request priority, but things were moving apace. And she doubted that she was carrying anything dangerous, being only a few hours out from starbase, and having been through the bio-filters at least twice in as many hours for two different transporters. But it was protocol to get checked out anyway. Mostly that was reserved for away missions, but it was better safe than sorry.

Less than a minute later the lift halted and opened up, dropping her in spitting distance of sickbay. A few long rangy strides took her to the doors and through them. Casting about for Doctor Grey or Doctor Astor, or any of the medical staff really.

Noah looked up from what he was doing as the doors to sickbay opened up again. Things had really picked up with all the new faces. But it definitely made the day pass more quickly. He straightened his uniform and lab coat and approached the new arrival with a polite smile.

“Hello, I’m Dr. Astor, what can I do for you today?”

“Hey there. I’m Lieutenant Commander Stone. Transferring from U.S.S. Valkyrie by way of Starbase 157 and the U.S.S. Velocity. I need to be checked out and cleared for duty. I imagine there’s still a lot of catch up after crew rotations, so I can take a number if you need.”

Noah straightened up somewhat when he realized just who this new arrival was. A twinge of anxiety crept up on the edges of his mind, but he pushed those feelings down to focus on the fact that he was a completely capable doctor and this was really just a routine exam.

“Of course, ma’am, its nice to meet you. I appreciate your understanding, we have been a little busy down here. I would be happy to help you out with the boarding physical unless you would prefer to wait for the CMO.”

-Ensign Astor, Medical

“In the past few hours I’ve been through no less than three transporters and scans. It would be a miracle if something had been missed in all that. You’re trained. You’re an expert. And… you’re a professional. This is your house so let’s get to it.” She gave the Ensign and easy, warm smile. “And there’s a situation developing that I need to get back to, though Captain Orvos is probably fine without me for now. Where do you want me?” She jerked her thumb toward the bank of bio-beds.

((Bump))

Noah nodded, “Yes ma’am, I will try not to hold you up here for too long. Why don’t you take a seat on biobed 1 and I will be right over there with you.”

The doctor quickly gathered up a medical tricorder and met the XO back at the biobed. He tapped a few things into the operator station to bring up the senior officer’s medical files and glanced over them quickly, including the multiple transporter logs from the last 24 hours.

“Well there don’t appear to be any microbiological concerns from the recent transports, so that’s good news,” he said turning back to the XO and starting some routine checks with the tricorder. “I didn’t see anything overtly concerning in your files either. Is there anything that might not be in the files that I should know about?”

-Ensign Astor, Medical

((Apologies, her file isn’t quite finished, but this should allow me to round some stuff out.))

There were, of course, the usual bumps, scrapes, bruises, pulls, and twists of life and a career security officer and engineer. Boxer’s fracture from a training incident. A burn from a hot EPS conduit. Minor things really. Though her records showed she’d been contacted by a nebula-like creature during a mission. It left her with nervous system damage through most of her body along with plasma burns. Those had all been repaired and fixed over the following year she’d spent at headquarters recovering and pushing papers.

The rest of her records came from a long stint on the U.S.S. Valkyrie. Treated for shrapnel wounds and some burns during her first tour. The rest seemed mostly uneventful.

“Not that I know of,” she said, glancing at the monitor while swinging her legs a little, something she rarely got to do with her height. “I … ” She paused. “I know that I underwent some childhood PTSD because of… well a few events. Especially the Dominion War. I was only nine when it broke out. So that left it’s neurological marks. I’m doing okay, I feel like. But if you want to take a brain activity scan, make sure there’s no regression.”

(( If you’re interested in more on the subject, I recommend this video. I would also presume Federation medical science has come so much farther and can do much more than we can now, and this is kind of an emerging field.))

Noah nodded, “I think several generations from all across the galaxy are going to be feeling the effects from that war. You were just the right age to be acutely aware of what was going on and powerless to do much about it. I was young enough to not really remember it, but I’m definitely here in Starfleet because of it.”

He entered a few updates into the file based on her statements. Then pulled up some of the past brain scans that had been done to review those.

“Let’s do a scan, if you have time right now, it should only take a few minutes,” he said setting down the tricorder and starting up the biobed. “When was the last time you experienced any symptoms?”

-Ensign Astor, Medical

“Well, from the Dominion War… Not in a good while. But I do have bad dreams, nighmares mostly. No night terrors in a long while. Flashbacks every once in a while. But general triggers are pretty low. Anxiety is manageable, and I haven’t felt particularly wound up in a while. I thought I would coming to the Athena, but so far it’s almost business as usual. Besides well… all the hassle of moving. And now I’m responsible for a lot more people.” She let out a breath, puffing her cheeks. “No pressure.” At that she broke into a grin for a moment, but rather than fake or forced, it was warm and genuine.

“Did you need me to lay down?”

At least their counselor would likely be happy, having a good workup and fresh scans to look over.
