Janna grinned. “Yes, please. Something with a view if possible? And we’re here for lunch, so menus and specials would be lovely.” She gestured between them.

“Marishka, this is one of my moms, Joana Silva. Joana, Marishka, our wonderful hostess.” Despite the all too apparent ambush, Janna was glad to spend time with her mom and introduce her to the world in which she existed.

Marishka lead the women to a small table that had abundant greenery growing on either side of a large arched window that gave a glorious view of where the ship was currently headed. Today she hadn’t dressed in the formal Grecian garb but opted for leather and the lace shawl with coin fringe precariously perched on her shoulders.

“Well I’ll have menus brought in a moment. We have a new salad selection. Todd, one of our new chefs, is really amazing. Being almost an obligate carnivore myself, I’m surprised how subtle greenery can actually be.”

Bowing slightly, she pulled chairs out.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you ma’am. May I offer you both some coffee? Oh, and we have some new white tea in stock.”

“Coffee would be great, black,” Joana said. “And thank you for the welcome. This place is not what I expected for a lounge. It’s a delightful surprise!”

“I could go for some coffee too,” Janna added. “Thank you Marishka.”

A moment later, an ensign in a gold uniform passed by, slowing near the table. “Good day, Janna! “
She grinned. “Hey, Joyce.”
“Kahtz seems to think we should add a water polo tournament to the list.”
Janna laughed. “What do you think?”
Joyce shrugged. “Why the hell not?”
She nodded. “Go ahead and add it and next week when we meet we can see what ideas stick.”
“Got it! Have a good day,” Joyce said, before nodding to Joana. “Ma’am.”

Silva eyed her daughter. “And what was all that?” she said with a laugh.
“Social committee. Being the head of the counselling department also means you’re the defacto morale officer.”
“Don’t you have enough to do?” Joana said, worry creeping into her voice.
Janna just grinned. “Yes, I do. But it’s fun and some days I needs more of that.”
“Amen to that.”
Janna shook her head.

By that time, Marishka had returned with the coffees and two of their latest menus with specials highlighted for each meal of the day. There was also a new section highlighting bar snack items.

“If you need help with that social committee issue, I’d be glad to volunteer a little bit of time. Between you and I, I know of a few people who’ve just fallen out of relationships and might need something else to occupy their time.” she said conspiratorially.
