Faye laughed and drew closer, slipping her arms around him, though she couldn’t encompass the large man at all. “Well, I mean, I could have lost myself there on the Harbringer for weeks or months, I’d have definitely felt like I was missing something rather important. You do realize that this is the longest we’ll have spent in each other’s company. I just hope we make it to the Athena without wanting to kill each other,” she said with a grin, even with the tiny bit of worry. She knew that her brain could get mixed up and that could make things difficult. Who knew what their time on Orion would dig up too. A hell of a way to end a trip, but somehow fitting for the couple who had done most things backwards. But the thought that he’d somehow come to realize that living with her was too much of a challenge was this unspoken fear, irrational or not, that weighed on her just a tiny bit.

Saggum pulled her closer and said “My love, I traversed billions of kilometers and waited a year just to talk to you. If that doesn’t count for something, I don’t know what will.” and he laughed. “But don’t worry. I have no doubt we will be able to handle this. Besides,we have a lifetime ahead of us to get it right.”

She broke into a grin. “Yeah we do,” Faye said, rising up on her tip-toes to plant a kick kiss on his lips. “I love you Starman. Just remember that in those moments when I make you so frustrated you wish you had hair you could pull out,” she teased, her heels touching the deck again. “But for now, onto out first destination. All I can say is that wherever we go, I’m so glad we’re going together.” This new life together was going to be a massive change in a set of massive changes, but she had waited for joy like this all her life and she intended to savour it.

Daggum smiled broadly and said “As you wish.” He pressed a small comms panel and said “Ready when you are, Captain.” There was no verbal response, but the two Fleet officers recognized the sound of docking clamps releasing and the ship began to slowly drift away form the station. Windows slid open on three sides of the room… port, starboard, and aft… and they could see the station below and slightly behind them begin to fall away as well as multitudes of vessels of all kinds moving to and from the station they just left. Daggum pointed out several vessels that were uncommon or even unique in some way, and after a few minutes the ship orientated itself and moved into warp. Daggum smiled slightly at the familiar-but-still-beautiful streaks of light that surrounded them and held Faye close to him. “You know, no matter how often I see it… this view never fails to astound me.” he said softly.

Safely ensconced in his arms, Faye watched as if seeing it new. And she was. She was a different person than every other pervious time she had watched a ship at warp. “There were times I would forget how beautiful being in space could be. Some people fear the darkness of it, the sheer void. But it always felt like opportunity. And this here? It’s moving towards something amazing. I haven’t always been able to say that, so it makes this extra special.”

Turning in his arms, she gazed up at him. “So while we’re en route, we’ve got time to kill. Any ideas?” she said, waggling her brows.
