“And unfortunately, a being can’t avoid stress in life, no matter what you do. But you can mitigate the worst of it. Look, we could sit here all day, but I think we hav a good direction to go in. So what I’m going to propose is that I give you some homework. Then you and I can meet next week, in a location of your choosing and you can tell me how the homework went. That sound fair?”

Liam exhaled deeply, silently agreeing with her. Knowledge thrived better with tests than theories in the end.

“Yes, it does. I can manage a little homework as long I’m still allowed to resume my duties. As for where to meet next week, I suggest the holodeck.” He knew the location was odd, but it allowed more security options than here.

Janna gave a reassuring smile. “What you’re experiencing is simply a need for some guidance, Liam. That’s rarely a reason to pull someone from duty. So… homework: I simply want you to keep a daily record of when you notice your… companion becoming agitated, and what activities or actions alleviate your stressors. Just be your already observant self and we’ll talk about it on the holodeck next week. Any places you absolutely would not want to find yourself at on the holodeck?”

” That is more challenging to determine. I’ve not really challenged the creature’s tolerance for certain activities. Unless you want to risk it, I would suggest we avoid any clear dangerous settings like lava trailing, deep water diving, and space.” Liam stated the obvious, but his face remained straight and calm.

He let the silence stay for a moment before added. “It might be interesting to do something other than just talk. Especially since the holodeck is the ideal place to test limits or different stimulations.”

“That is true. And I find sometimes even just he act of walking while we talk can help process things better. Moving meditation and all that. So, you do your homework and I’ll book either a holodeck or holosuite. Our assistant Cherry will reach out with the details.”

Rising to her feet, she gave Liam a smile. “Despite my perhaps aggressive approach I hope you can see now that I’m here to help. What that looks like ultimately depends on you and what you’re willing to put into this process, but don’t forget that you’re an integral part of this crew, of this our senior staff. You being at your best can only serve the ship and crew better.”
