Dawson had completed his physical and decided to simply move on to his psych eval. The counselor in question was a certain Janna Kingston. The name sounded very familiar, but not of a very recent note. He stepped into the psychological wing of the ship where the offices were kept tucked away.

“Hello,” he said to the secretary by way of greeting. “My name is Dawson, and I’m here to see Miss Kingston for a boarding evaluation?”

The suite was laid out in a half circle with the doors to six office laid out on the curved side, with a reception desk in the middle and some chairs lined up against the straight wall which the door to the corridor bisected. Behind the desk was a young ensign with a long dark hair tied up in a loose bun, a beaming smile and a forehead marking that denoted she was Risian. “Welcome to the Counselling department. Dr. Kingston is free and expecting you, so go right on in. Red door,” Cherry said , gesturing behind her.

Dawson gave the woman a warm smile before heading back.

Stepping through the red door, Janna’s office was a modest space rather fitting the petite woman. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.

Dawson took special note of the room and it’s orderliness. When his eyes settled on the dark blue armchairs, he strode over to one and plopped himself in the middle of it. He rubbed the soft arms of the seat as he simply enjoyed the moment.

He sighed at the realization that he was ultimately here to get an evaluation done, and not to simply enjoy new furniture. He looked about for the counselor.

The door opened and admitted a petite woman with a mass of blond curls to her chin. “Sorry for the wait, just had to talk to my colleague next door,” she said as she moved to the replicator. Perhaps the name rang a bell that was uncertain for him, but maybe in person he’d recognize her. “Coffee, with milk, no sugar,” she said, watching the mug materialize.

For a moment she just gazed at Dawson until Janna shook her head. “You know, of all the people I’d see show up on this ship, I did not expect to see someone from Outpost Forty-five. It’s been awhile, Dawson.”

Dawson paused as though searching through his massive memory for the name. When she finally turned towards him, he grinned a bit more, recognizing her from previous postings. He lightly chuckled. “It certainly has Janna Kingston. How have you been?” he inquired of her. He watched and took in her every move.

“Well enough,” she said with a smile. “Can I get you something while I’m up?” Janna said, gesturing to the replicator. She sipped on her coffee, taking him in. She wasn’t sure how much she should say and really at this point it wasn’t necessary. Maybe later, or after.

After finishing at the replicator, Janna joined him in the other armchair, crossing her legs at the knee. As she did now, to those that could detect it, there was a tangible energy about Janna. Something that would seem rather familiar to Dawson, even if he couldn’t immediately place it. “So, you’ve had a varied time in recent years. Tell me what brings you to the Athena?”
