Daggum followed her up the ramp and through the docking hatch. As soon as they were through, things changed drastically.

Gone was the heavy industrialized decor of the station. The ship was lit softly but with surprising clarity. The stale, recycled air of the station was replaced by what smelled like fresh air, but with a subtle sweetness to it… like the far off aroma of flowers carried on the wind. A large Andorian dressed in a dark blue suit with officer’s epaulets stood in the passageway. He smiled as his antennae swiveled in their direction.

Faye took in all the tiny details, letting herself relax just a little, even as the Andorian approached. It wasn’t just the new environment and known people that was making her anxious, it was the fact that this would be the most time her and Daggum had spent in the same place since they met. One week on R&R was not enough to know all the ways a person went about their daily life and she knew they were both going to have to do a lot of adjustment.

“I am Captain Mal’tek. Please leave your luggage here and the porter will move it to your cabin. On behalf of myself, my crew…” and he grinned at both Faye and Daggum, “… and Fleet Captain Alexander Cochrane, welcome to the Ruby Soho.” He snapped his fingers and four individuals stepped into the passageway. “Allow me to introduce some of the crew. My first officer Draliad.” and a tall Vulcan inclined her head. “Chief Steward Hans Heinrikkson.” and a blonde haired human smiled and said “Welcome aboard.” with a heavy Scandinavian accent. “J’Alek, our Chief Engineer.” the Caotain continued and a Tellerite male nodded. “And Eight, our helmsman and Security officer.” Eight was, or rather had been, a Romulan. But it was apparent that they had at one time been part of the Borg Collective. They inclined their head and said “Qe are very pleased to have you with us.” Mal’tek looked at the two passengers for any sign of apprehension at the appearance of Eight. Daggum merely smiled and said “A pleasure to meet you, for certain.” He looked at the Caotain and said “And may I ask what Fleet Captain Cochrane had to do with this? Last I checked, I made all the arrangements.” Mal’tek smiled broadly and said “Indeed. But he also understood that the two of you would have issues with strangers for so long a time, so he asked if we could assist. All of the crew is former Star Fleet. I was the CO of the Pendragon-class Spartan. Eight was the Marine fighter wing CO on the carrier Hirohito. J’Alek’s last posting was the Chief Engineer on Starbase 3. Draliad was my XO on the Spartan. And Hans was the Chief Ops officer on the Casiopea science vessel. The Ruby actually has three crews, and we rotate trips. But we all know Cochrane in some form or fashion, and he asked us to take care of you two. So… if that sounds okay to you… we have drink waiting in the lounge.” and he gestured down the passageway to the aft end of the ship.

Daggum

Faye’s brows quirked at the news that Alex had helped arrange things. It was as amusing as it was touching, and Faye visibly relaxed a few notches more. She lifted the carrier slightly as she followed Mal’tek. “I hope no one is allergic to cats. Tess here is my service animal and I was hoping that we could allow her access to the places I’m likely to be in, while obviously restricting her from everywhere else.” Her other concern was immediately dismissed since if Alex had had any say in this he would have handled the alcohol issue. Moment by moment her mind was tossing issues aside and that was making her feel more at ease. She shot Daggum a smile, a sign that she was looking forward to this, all told.

Mal’tek smiled and said “The three of you have access to the entirety of the ship. The only out of bounds places are our cabins… unless you’re invited of course. I mean, we are going to be spending a great deal of time together. I hope we can become, if not friends, than at least friendly. Oh, and there is a package for Mrs. Calloway-Hammor in the lounge. Small, but seems important. And the more-so-than-normally terse Klingons who brought it here were insistant that you recieve it before departing.” and he motioned for them to follow.

Her brows rose again. “I don’t need to bash any heads in do it? I mean, the honeymoon just started,” she said with a smirk. Klingon was her second-favourite language to curse in though. Rhiannsu remained the best, by far. “As for friends, you’re an optimistic fellow and normally that would put me on edge, but Captain, I just married so I’m in a pretty happy and optimistic mood so I say there is a better chance than usual,” she said with a wink.

The lounge area was a large seating area set amidships and was almost as wide as the ship itself. Large, deep-cushioned sofas and couches surrounded a low table; and a bar was set against the wall opposite the exterior deck aft. On the table was a black box with a strip of blood-red ribbon off-set slightly left of center down the middle. A large gold heraldic seal showed an unfamiliar Klingon House crest. An old-fashioned card was under the seal which, when opened, said “Long may your line carry on; and may you slake your thirst with your enemy’s blood!” It was signed ‘Urg’tohn, Lord Duroc’.

Faye had set Tess down and opened the front so the feline could come out and get used to their surrounding and Faye’s reactions to them. “Huh,” she murmured as she eyed the box and then opened it. “Enemy’s blood,” she said with a laugh, glancing at Daggum and showing him the card. “Someone has heard the rumours.”

Inside, on a bed of black satin, sat a single crimson stone: a Tear of Kvaar’ton. The same kind of stone Alex had let Faye use on the Manhattan.

Daggum

She knew what it was instantly and Faye shook her head. “Oh Alex, you beautiful havam.” She carefully lifted the stone up and waggled her brows at Daggum. “All the drinks for me, forever more. I do think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, don’t you/” she said, her pale grey-green eyes gleaming.

Daggum looked at her through narrowed eyes and said “What is that? And why are strange Klingons gifting you jewelry? Or is this a ‘Just roll with it, darling.’ moment?” and he chuckled. He looked at the Caotain and said “Would you and your crew care to christen our voyage with a drink with us?” Mal’tek inclined his head slightly and said “We are never ones to turn down a friendly libation.”In a few minutes, the crew had assembled and all present had a glass in their hand. Mal’tek smiled and said “To our new guests, and to their recent nuptials. Congratulations, and welcome aboard!” and the crew raised their glasses to the newlyweds.
