Right now the space between them was good, necessary. “Have to? No, I don’t have to. But I also wouldn’t be such a great counsellor if I simply ignored my instincts. I’ll grant you though that that is more complicated between us now. But I don’t see that as a deterrent.”
He gave slight laugh at that.
“You know the Athena is not the Aurora, right? You are not the same man you once were. You’ve lived years upon years since then. Why does this scare you so much?”

“I know it’s not,” he replied truthfully. “But I still allowed it to happen. My species has no home now because of me. Why should I be allowed in command again?” His eyes locked on to hers.

Janna’s gaze never wavered. If there was someone who was comfortable with meeting (and sometimes forcing) gazes, it was her. “And what exactly is a fitting punishment then? Are you not capable of learning from your mistakes?” she said, tilting her head ever so slightly.

“Of course I am,” he replied taking a sip of the bottle still gazing into her eyes. “But it’s not something worth celebrating is it?”
-Commander Orvos Legen, XO
For a moment she just searched his gaze. Other than him swigging from the bottle, neither had moved, content to keep their space. “Maybe not. But that’s not what that ceremony was, why we all dressed up. And even if you want to toss me some nonsense about the rest of the crew not knowing your past and so not having a say, what about those of us who do know? What if we choose to celebrate a new beginning?”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
Orvos paused and set the bottle down with a resounding clunk.
“New beginnings eh?” He replied as he breached the bubble between them, his body having moved towards her, his hand on the side of her face. “This would definitely be new.” His face inches from hers.

In actual fact, Janna hadn’t come here as Doctor Kingston, but where needed, she would often appear. She was too good at her job to just ignore something that needed her skills. And yet, the man before her didn’t need a therapist tonight. There would be plenty of opportunities in the future, though she understood there were complications here by their involvement and also that he would likely refuse to see someone else on her staff. He did seem to take special delight in being difficult!
But all these thought vanished as warmth blossomed on her cheek as his hand made that beautiful connection surge. He was more than a little drunk, and yet, she knew instinctively what he wanted and needed. And she new herself too well to know that she hadn’t come here to scold him for running away. Quite the opposite. There was a part of her that wanted to sooth that hurt part of him, leave something lovely behind in its place. Was she able to? Would she be enough? She didn’t know. But it was time to find out.
“We’re not supposed to be touching,” she whispered. “But someone told me recently that I should live a little. Take risks. Have regrets. I think he might be right,” she said before leaning in and pressing her lips to his, sighing softly as if she had been denied something for so long and was finally allowed to have it.
