Still in her own dress uniform, the petite counsellor cut a tidy figure as she stepped lightly into his space. “I’m not sure I’m the one who needs the help tonight,” she said lightly as she moved over and sat opposite from him on the couch.

Her grass green eyes gazed at him intently. “Are you looking for celebration or commiseration?” she said, gesturing her head towards the bottle.

Orvos chuckled as he looked at the bottle. “Not much for me to celebrate unfortunately. I’ll let everyone else do that.”

“Hmmm…” she said.

He the leveled his eyes at her. “You don’t have to be here you know.” He kept them on her, nor asking for sympathy. Just a simple acceptance of the situation.

Right now the space between them was good, necessary. “Have to? No, I don’t have to. But I also wouldn’t be such a great counsellor if I simply ignored my instincts. I’ll grant you though that that is more complicated between us now. But I don’t see that as a deterrent.”

“You know the Athena is not the Aurora, right? You are not the same man you once were. You’ve lived years upon years since then. Why does this scare you so much?”
