Bittersweet did not begin to explain the feeling as the shuttle carried them away from the place she had called home. A brief stop at Event Horizon Station to both stock up on a few things for their journey and for her to say goodbye, and soon Faye Calloway and her new husband were about to enter the wormhole for the last time. It was highly unlikely either of them would be back this way aside from an emergency that had Faye recalled back to the Delta Quadrant. The likelihood of that happening was rather small and she had left the team she had trained behind with (hopefully) everything they needed in order to handle any emergency that cropped up for the Manhattan’s and Event Horizon’s data security. She couldn’t worry about it anymore, though it didn’t mean she wouldn’t on occasion.Beyond work, Faye had said farewell to more people than she ever dreamed she’d have a need to. It went without saying that her acerbic and sometimes abrasive demeanour rubbed many people the wrong way, but the strangest thing had happened on the Manhattan: coupled with the hard personal work she had engaged in, people had taken the time to see through her shell and understand the core of who she was. It was all summed up on the t-shirt she wore beneath her leather jacket that said: I have a good heart, but this mouth! ** It was funny, but true.
But the thing that made all these changes necessary and bearable was the large green-skinned man next to her. She called dibs on piloting thought the wormhole (needing to mark the occasion somehow), though they were going to take turns, spelling each other off and serving as co-pilot when needed. Both in flight and in life. Faye grinned at Daggum, that rare contentedness flooding through her again that told her that everything was exactly as it should be.
A fluffy grey tail brushed her leg and she looked down to see her grey-point empathic ragdoll mix cat, Tess, who took Faye’s brief pat as an invitation to jump into her lap, blocking her view of the console. “So you want to be co-pilot too, huh?” Tess bumped her hand, and Faye reflexively scratched behind an ear and along that feline’s jaw.
=/\=Shuttle Baret, you’re cleared for wormhole entry. Safe journey.=/\=
Faye smiled. =/\=Acknowledged, Event Horizon. Try to keep yourselves out of trouble. You do not want me having to come back here. You know I’ll give you a piece of my mind in that case.=/\=
A chuckle sounded over the comm =/\=We’ll keep that in mind, Commander. Event Horizon, out.=/\=
This was it. Time to leave the Delta Quadrant. “Ready, Dag?” she asked, taking a deep breath.
~Faye Calloway, Honeymooner
Daggum Hammor, the large green-skinned man in question, looked at his new wife and smiled. “Ready as ever, Faye. Let’s go.” and he turned and looked out the forward view as a miniscule speck of light swirled into the massive time-and-space- bending wormhole. As soon as it appeared, it flashed and winked seemingly out of existence… taking the shuttle and its three occupants with it.
Guiding the shuttle through the wormhole was easy enough and it allowed Faye to just take it all in. Tess tilted her head back and forth, entranced by the swirls of colours. “Crossing threshold.... now.” Her eyes were mostly fixed on the view, though she glanced down at the readings for a split second here and there. From this point on, she was just along for the ride.
To say the interior of the wormhole was chaotic was akin to saying water was wet. Yet for all of its chaos, there was beauty. That beauty had always transfixed Daggum when he crossed before. But this time, it was even more spectacular. Because this time, he saw the beauty of it reflected in the eyes of his wife.
It seemed like ages, but in mere seconds the shuttle popped into being on the other side. The comms crackled to life and a voice said =/\= Shuttle Baret, you are clear for docking. And your ship is standing by. =/\= The voice came from the station floating silently before them, and docked at the station were several large ships… and one luxury passenger vessel. Daggum looked at Faye and smiled. “The Ruby Soho is ours for the next four weeks. Since we never really decided where we wanted to go exactly, I figured we could just relax and see where the stars send us for a couple of weeks as we slowly make our way towards where our stories began. What do you think?”
Daggum
She grinned at him. “Now that sounds like a great idea. I’ve roamed the galaxy so much of my life. First time I’ve had someone so awesome at my side,” she said, meaning every word.
It took time to not just transfer themselves but their cargo to the Ruby Soho but Faye was particular about making sure her special crates (including the experimental relay), didn’t leave her or Daggum’s sight. Daggum she trusted, but a bunch of random people who didn’t know how precious some of this stuff was? Like hell.
Tess was moved to her carrier (with only a mew for a protest) and Faye shook her head as she gazed upon the ship. “I’ve been missing out my entire life. All those freighters! I should have aimed higher,” she said, winking at Daggum. She’s seen ships like this, especially in her Kodiak days doing runs to Tortuga but never had she been aboard one and got to travel on such a ship. It made the Kodiak look like a third-hand waste disposal vessel. “I’m taking notes for our shipping company. Aim for functional but pretty.”
~Faye
Daggum laughed and said “Oh, this is so much more than pretty. Four decks with full kitchen, lounge, bar, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, vid theater, spa staff, chef, pilot and crew of ten. Master Suite is on deck 2 and is the full front half of the deck. Suborbital Neyzian shuttle for going exploring. And… we have it all to ourselves. The staff is there to make sure we have anything and everything we want for the next month.”
