“After the last few years, excessively quiet and boring,” Ros admitted. “But, that’s apparently what the Brass had in mind for me and I have to admit, the down time didn’t go to waste. I had time to catch up on a few hobbies that I neglected while I was on the Vanguard on the way here.” Collecting a large coffee from the replicator Ros sat down behind the desk and leaned back in the chair, clearly trying it out for size.

“So, you mention it isn’t easy being the Chief Engineer here and Commander Nightstalker tells me the ship has it’s fair share of exciting incidents,” Ros’ eyebrow rose just slightly as he asked, “what exactly have I gotten myself into, Commander?”

Orvos laughed. “If you’re looking to expand your skill set, then you’ve come to the right place.” He leaned in closer. “We were sent on R and R what happened was anything but.” He then leaned back with a grin. “I think starfleet owes us for that one.”

“Maybe they know it,” Ros spoke and a smirk appeared at the corners of his mouth, after which he spread his hands wide as if presenting himself. “They sent me to you, didn’t they? I’d call it even.” The boast coming from Ros was clearly in jest by the way he spoke, to a point. He had an underlying air of confidence and self assurance about him that pointed to the man trusting himself and his skills.

Orvos laughed. “While I don’t doubt your abilities, they’re going to need to make up for it much more than sending one stellar officer.”

Taking a drink of his coffee, Ros used it to hide the grin that spread across his face before he turned to look at the console beside him. “So do we have any outstanding Engineering tasks that I’ll be taking over aside from standard procedures and maintenance at this time?”

“Actually, there is a project that you’ll need to be aware of. It’s a rather new feature that could be installed to the Athena. We’re in the ending stages of testing though. Science and engineering have been working together on the incorporation of a new AI to the ship’s systems.” It was a project that starfleet and the captain were well aware of, but it had not been overly publicized yet.
