In between a slew of appointments on her schedule for the day, Janna grabbed the report that Cherry had put together and she approved, and made her way up to the Bridge. Strange as it might seem, she enjoyed these mundane lift rides, moving her through their vast vessel. The Athena was a bigger vessel than she had served on before, but the outpost was even bigger. It had felt different though.Stepping out onto the bridge, Janna took a moment to quietly observe the workings of the bridge crew with a smile.
“Morning, Doc,” Ensign Fazo said from the operations console, likely to be trading off with Hammor at some point today.
“Good morning, Ters,” she greeted warmly, moving to the ready room, knowing that that was where she’d find Wallace. Pressing the chime, she tapped the PADD against her thigh a couple of times.

Jenn was currently in the middle of some paperwork, but she pushed it to the side with a small breath of relief at the opportunity to think about something else for a few minutes. “Enter,” she called out, the door opening. The Captain stood and walked over to the door to greet the Counselor, a smile on her face. “Hello, Lt. (jg) Kingston. Please, come in and take a seat. What brings you all the way up here?”
Kingston wiggled the PADD in her hand. “Have the departmental report for you and I also wanted to see how you were faring.”
Jennifer gestured to the stiff but comfortable couch placed against the wall, perpendicular to her desk. She wasn’t fond of eye contact - it made her antsy - and placing people perpendicular to her was a great way to organically prevent too much of it. It was also more comfortable than chairs or standing. Of course, there was a table on the other end of the room with chairs all around it, but that was for Senior Staff meetings, not one-on-one discussions. “Would you like something to drink?” she asked, puttering over to the replicator. “Hot Chocolate, Program J4.”

Jennifer gave a slight nod at the PaDD. “On my desk is good for that.”
“Coffee for me would be great, just black, no milk or sugar, thanks,” Janna said as she moved over to the couch after setting the PADD on the captain’s desk. “How have things been? Feeling settled in ?”

“Things have been fine. As well as could be expected, I suppose. Some days are harder than others, but I think that’s par for the course captaincy. Coffee, black.”
The replicator produced the requested meals, and Jenn carried the mug of coffee over to Janna, placing it on a small side table next to the couch. Placed there specifically for drinks. She slipped around the desk and sat down, pushing some of the stacked PaDDs to the side in order to be able to see Janna a little better. “I’m glad we’re finally getting some of those crew replacements I ordered. Orvos seems to be taking to his position well, and our new CE is on route. Still waiting on the new Security Chief but I’m sure they’ll be around in time.”

Kingston nodded. “Crew changeups can be positive and I’m glad to see people embrace opportunities unexpectedly. A ship this large is used to people changing, so most will just go with it, but we did go through a major shuffle not all that long ago. I’m glad to see it’s working out well for everyone,” she said with a genuine smile.
“How are you feeling as a captain?” Janna asked openly.

Jenn was quiet for a few moments. “I’m… Not sure. I didn’t really think I was ready for the promotion, and it was thrust upon me rather suddenly, but I think I’ve grown accustomed to it. It’s stressful being in charge of so many lives, but then again, I was a Chief Medical Officer!”
Janna smiled lightly. She also knew that if Wallace hadn’t been up to it, she would never have been suggested for the role. She knew Koraia too well to know that the woman had given her thoughts on the matter before she left.
She was quiet again. “I’m not sure. We’ll see how things go in future. I’ve only been on one mission, and that was a mission that wasn’t really supposed to be a mission. It was supposed to be a vacation. We’ll see how my first intentional mission goes.”

“Well, you know I’m here if you need a sounding board, yes?” Janna said. It was important for both of them to get comfortable with each other so that Janna could provide the guidance Jenn needed. Right now they really didn’t know each other much at all and that would need to change quickly.

“Of course,” Wallace replied with a slightly tense smile that relaxed after a moment. “I do appreciate that. Thank you.”
