Stark gave a small nod of recognition of what was most likely a dismissal and turned and left quietly with a small smile.Stark Nightstalker CIO
“I understand, sir,” Taban said, taking a seat as asked. “I’m glad to be here nevertheless,” he continued with a nervous smile.

Liam moved to let Nightstalker walk through and depart. He fixed his eyes on the Caitian’s back until he vanished, the wariness still lingering on his spine. While the CIO hadn’t shown any reason to distrust him, the atmosphere of mystery and danger surrounding the office was rather thick. When Ens. Brook sat down, he stirred. With a few clipping footsteps, he reached his side of the desk and lowered into his own seat.
With tablets littering the top, he began to adjust them from one side to the other. It didn’t take him long to pull with the logs with the officer’s information.
“As you know, at the academy you’re introduced to all four departments and finally decide on a career area to follow. My first question is: why the science department?” Being well fed happened to make him more blunt than usual, but it was a good indication of the officer’s motives and personality.

“I have been interested in science, especially genetics and anthropology, since I knew what they were. I suppose it has to do with my being a hybrid, I just have always found the subject interesting, and it was more intriguing by far than the other departments. There was no debate about joining Starfleet, so here I am.” He laughed, but failed to hide the nervousness in his voice. This was basically his dream, and he didn’t want to blow it.

Liam listened as he swiped up on the PADD, tapping a few notes into the surface. Noting the nervous nature, he made a polite suggestion.
“Would you like something to drink? I’m about to get me a Raktajino.” Patiently he waited for the officer’s reply before he rose from his seat and headed toward the replicator.
“No thank you,” he replied.
Nodding once, Liam walked over and retrieved his drink. He returned then settled into his seat once more. With a sip, he debated on how to begin the report in.
Above them, something crawled through the vent. Brook could hear a faint scraping followed by a thump and another round of scratching. Through the vent’s slot were a small pair of reptilian eyes within a lizard’s narrow heard. It flicked its tongue as it stared at him, patiently waiting for attention to be drawn to it.
Liam appeared completely obvious to it or doing his best to ignore it.

Taban looked up and noticed the lizard. “Sir, is that reptilian creature supposed to be loose on the ship?”

Liam sighed then glanced up. For a moment, the annoyed expression softened then hardened again, resuming his displeasure over the situation.
“No, he is not. But I’m not surprised he is. He always seems to manage to escape his habitat whenever his basking rock isn’t enough.” He leaned over and pulled open a drawer, revealing a small tool in his hand. It was a screw driver. A piece of work that lasted centuries because it was pointless to improve on what was already functional and perfect for its job.
Liam pushed out from his chair and began to climb the desk. He paused long enough to give Brook instruction.
“Can you hold me steady while I get him down?” From his reaction, this appeared to be an incident that happened more than once.
