The big Orion Operations Chief moved through the passageways and the look on his face made sure people moved. He found himself closing in on the Counseling Suites and took a breath. Maybe Janna will be free… I need some perspective. he thought to himself for the fifth time in as many minutes. The call from Faye could not have come at a worse time. He had so much on his plate and that added weight was tipping what he hadn’t realized until now was a precarious balance between giving support and needing a break.“Hello, Commander.” the receptionist said as he entered the lobby of the CNS offices. “How can I help? I don’t think you-” and Hammor waved them off. “No, I dont have an appointment. But if Jan- er, Lieutenant Kingston is free, I’d like to talk to her if possible. If not, put me down for her next available time, will you please?” His tone was polite and professional… but there was an edge to it that was not normal for him.

The Risian nodded. “She’s currently in a session but should be done shortly. Let me just check to see if she can fit you in. Hold on,” Cherry said, moving from the arc-shaped desk that sat in front of the six counselling offices with the suite behind her set in a mirrored half circle.
A quick knock on the red door, and Cherry poked her head in, speaking in a soft voice. She returned a moment later and smiled. “She’ll be another ten minutes, but she said if you don’t mind waiting, she can fit you in when she’s done.”
~Cherry, Helpful Receptionist
“Much appreciated. I’ll come back in ten minutes. Thank you.” and Hammor walked out the door.
Nine and a half-minutes later, he reappeared and sat an ice cream sundae on Cherry’s desk. Two scoops, whipped cream, and a cherry on top drizzled with chocolate sauce. “Thank you again.” Hammor said with a slightly less sharp edge to his words.

Delight shone from her vivid blue eyes. “Oh, how lovely! Thank you, Commander,” Cherry said, accepting the sundae and plucking the cheery off the top immediately and popping it off the stem with her lips.
A few moments later, the door opened and an engineering ensign stepped out and turned to Janna, who had appeared behind him. “So does it matter how long?”
Janna shook her head. “Nope. I would suggest ten or fifteen minutes minimum, but the idea is to just do it without judgement. The words don’t even matter, but we can talk about what comes up next week. Alright?”
“Yeah, thanks. See then,” the ensign said with a small smile.
Janna mirrored the smile. “You’re welcome, Rodrigo.”
Rodrigo moved over to Cherry to book another appointment as Janna focused her attention on Daggum. She gestured her head for him to follow her inside.
In the modest space, the petite woman seemed to fit the cozy setting. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.
“Come on in and make yourself comfortable. I’m going to grab coffee and jot a couple notes from my last session before we get started. Did you want anything from the replicator while I’m there?”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
“No, thank you though. I just had some coffee. Thanks for sneaking me in.” Hammor said as he took a seat. “And I’m on your schedule, so take your time.” He shifted in the chair and found a comfortable position and then just looked at the ocean picture while Janna finished up.
