Stark placed a paw on her shoulder, “Contentment for you is to wander and search. The journey for you will never be over because you do not wish it to end”. At this point he gazed into her eyes so she could see herself reflected in their inky depths. “What you have lacked until recently were those who would journey with you”.

Ghubari gave him a lopsided grin. “You know me too well.” She moved her hands away from the keys and placed one on the paw on her shoulder. “What would I do without you? Actually, never mind. Perish the thought! I insist on going first. Captain’s prerogative!” She was joking, of course, but there was a part of her that was serious.

Stark’s eyes were a mystery “We shall see in time whether or not I can obey that particular order, you know my history of insubordination after all”.

Kaylee smiled, then did her best to stifle a yawn. “I think the wine is actually making me sleepy,” She said. “I believe I will bid you two dear friends goodnight. Let’s compare schedules and set up our tea very soon.” She reached over and gave Stark a gentle pat on the arm. Then as she moved past Ghubari, she slipped her arm around the Captain and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “You’re never quite alone,” Kaylee said softly, giving her friend a smile. Then she nodded to them both and made her way towards the door.

“So I’ve noticed,” Koraia replied with a soft smile as Kaylee moved away from them. “Good night, Kaylee.”

Stark bowed slightly in recognition of Kaylee’s pat on his arm. “Be well” he said in benediction as she left.

Stark smiled “I was hoping to have you to myself for a moment if you’re not too tired, I have a question”.

Turning to face him, Ghubari brought one leg up, bent it at the knee and rested it on its side on the piano bench. “Never too tired for you, ndugu. What’s on your mind?” It wasn’t like they didn’t have deep conversations most times they talked, but something about him wanting permission to ask her a question had piqued her curiosity.

He looked for all the world like a squirming five year old that desperately needed to go to the bathroom. Finally he blurted it out. “I need to ask permission to take some personal leave and travel across to the Mirror Dimension to retrieve something”. He stood there with a fixed rictus grin on his face as he plunged his chosen sister and Captain into yet another morass of mind bogglingly complicated mess that would be extremely difficult to include in the monthly reports. He shrugged a little “You told me I’m not allowed to lie any more or hide the truth” he said by way of disclaimer.
