Janna nodded and sipped some more coffee. “This is where you need to pull out your own bag of tricks, otherwise known as coping skills. When we’re struggling with expressing things, sometimes it can be really useful to free write. Just open a clean page in journal and let whatever comes out happen without filtering. You might find something of use or it might just be a way to get your mind more focused.”

“I can do that and I will,” Viyara replied with a nodded. “After finishing breakfast that is.” That said, she started on her bagel again, eating in silence for a while as she got lost in her own thoughts. Eventually she asked, “Is this going to change anything about the plans for today?” She tried to sound off hand, as if it didn’t much matter either way, but had the feeling that she didn’t quite succeed at that.

A frown lightly touched Kingston’s mouth. “No, why would it?” Without more information it was hard to frame Viyara’s worry in a way that would help it make sense.\

Viyara shrugged slightly and finished the last bite of her bagel. “I don’t know. Because I’m feeling unease and whatever else it is I’m feeling?” she asked and then suddenly rose to her feet. Walking over to the window, she placed her left palm on the glass and whispered, “I don’t know why, but in the bathroom … I … I felt the urge to hurt myself. I didn’t. I just grabbed the basin and held onto it with all my strength. I don’t understand it. I’m a little nervous, I think, but mostly I’m happy and excited to see Daggum. I-” Her voice broke and she felt a few tears run down her cheeks. She quickly brushed them away, feeling annoyed with herself.
