“It’s normal and not unexpected,” Janna said with a slow nod. “Your mind is trying to work through a lot of emotions and sometimes it’s just a lot to process. It can take a few days before you find a new equilibrium. I’m not concerned about a night of restlessness, but if it persists beyond a few days, then we can talk to the doctors about it.”

“I sure hope it won’t last more than a few days,” Viyara muttered and then sighed softly before taking another sip of coffee.

Janna smiled softly. “If it does, then we can take certain measures to help. But what we can do now is restructure a bedtime routine to help your mind let itself rest when it’s rest time.”

“Okay. Sounds good,” Viyara nodded. “Thanks.”

Sipping on her coffee, Janna was thoughtful for a moment before she spoke again. “So, my thought was that we could have breakfast, shower, get dressed and all that. Then I would invite Daggum over for coffee and we can chat. I have something I thought we could do as a group that our conversation last night inspired. How does that sound?”

A soft smile started to tug at the corners of her lips and eyes and some of the fatigue she was feeling seemed to disappear at the mention of Daggum’s name. “I’d like that,” Viyara replied softly. But quickly that smile seemed to falter a little as she felt tension creep up into her neck and shoulders. “How much does he know about what’s going on, about why I am here? And how did he react when you talked to him?” she asked a little nervously, her gaze fixed on the content of her cup.

“He’s worried about you, but glad you’re getting help. All I told him was that when you and I chatted I was concerned enough to hold you for assessment. I did ask for a couple observations related to self-harm and your dissociation, because observations from friends and family can be very helpful too,” Janna said simply. “How much you want to say when he gets here is up to you, but learning to share what we’re processing is a good skill to practice and I do believe Daggum is a safe person to share those thoughts and feelings with. I will disclose that he did want to me to be clear on what had happened between you two and I will tell you what I told him: unrequited love can be difficult, but if someone is worth having in our lives we tend to find a way through it. You both need to give yourselves time, and with a bit of time and the work we are doing, hopefully you can frame your feelings for him in a clearer light.”

Her cheeks turned as Janna told her that she had asked Daggum for things he had observed, making her wonder what he had said. She nearly asked about that but then decided that, maybe, it was better not to know. Instead she just nodded and finished the rest of her coffee. Putting her mug down, she looked at Janna and said, “Thank you Janna, for talking to him. For asking him to come here. For everything you’re doing for me. I know it’s your job, but it still means a lot me.” And before Janna could reply, she continued, “I’m gonna get dressed. I’ll only be in the bathroom for a few minutes. I did take a shower last night after all.” And with that she left the room, suddenly feeling the need to have few moments on her own without knowing why that was.

“No problem,” she said quietly to herself. Janna understood how difficult this whole process was but it was far more expedient in getting Viyara the help she clearly needed than waiting for even daily sessions. The work they could do here while Janna sorted through the information she was gathering was priceless. But she was also on on the lookout for undisclosed distress, things that could be happening that Nazeen herself wasn’t aware of.

Grabbing herself some scrambled eggs, toast and fruit salad, Janna took her breakfast to the table and sat down, enjoying the the morning sun that was filtering in through the nearby windows.

Back in the bathroom, Viyara grabbed the basin as hard as she could while looking at herself in the reflection of the mirror. She tried to put names to how she was feeling at the moment, but the only thing she came up with was unease. And that just didn’t seem to cover it. She also felt the urge to hurt herself. But the last thing she wanted to happen was to end up in sickbay. So she fought the urge. And with her tension ball in her room, the rim of the basin would have to do as a substitute and something to hold onto for now.

When she felt like she had a handle on herself again, Viyara let finally go of the basin and washed herself before changing into fresh clothes. Today’s outfit was pleated black, grey and magenta tartan miniskirt and a simple tank top in a darker shade of magenta. With her hair pulled back into her trademark messy ponytail, she walked out of the bathroom. And after dropping her pyjama onto her bed and picking up the tension ball from her nightstand, she returned to the kitchen and gave Janna a small smile.

Viyara knew she should say something, but she also really wanted to see Daggum and didn’t want to jeopardise that. And really, nothing had happened, she rationalised as she filled her mug with more coffee and got herself a cinnamon bagel with some plain cream cheese. Sitting down at the table, she asked instead, “How did you sleep? And how are you doing?”

Kingston nodded as she finished swallowing a bite. “I’m okay. Reasonable sleep. Though I had this weird dream I was with my moms… who knows where we were, and there were all these kittens everywhere and everyone seemed to think this was normal. So I’m just going about my day and then this itty bitty new born rabbit the length of my thumb bites me on said thumb and I’m just staring at the bite marks thinking it very odd. But just the bite marks, not the exceptionally tiny bunny.” She threw he hands out. “Dreams… don’t ask me,” she said with a laugh.

Viyara had just started on her first bite of the bagel and nearly inhaled it as she burst out laughing as well. Covering her mouth with her hand and turning her face away, she coughed a few times, tears glistening in her eyes. “That is the weirdest and most hilarious dream I’ve ever been told,” she managed to reply. “Thank you for sharing. I really needed that laugh,” she admitted before she knew what she was saying.
