Daggum thought for a moment and said “I think so. She digs her nails into her arms… hard. And she kind of went ‘vacant’ once, I think. Hard to tell, it wasn’t long and we were both really tired.”

Janna nodded. “Okay, I’ll keep that in mind.” She went quiet for a moment but then gave him a small smile. “I should go. I have a couple errands I need to run before I return to the holodeck. I’ll contact you tomorrow when it’s a good time for you to visit, but if you don’t hear from me , don’t panic, okay? Something might have changed and I may feel it no longer a good idea. Just know that she’s safe with me and she will be okay. Any questions before I go?”

Daggum looked confused for a minute and then said “Why would I panic? I know she’s in good hands. I trust you. Let me me know… and tell her I’m cheering for her, okay?” and he stood up and held out his hand. “You’ll get her through, Lieutenant. I have every faith in you.”

Janna stood and gave his large hand a squeeze. “And so do I,” she said honestly. It wasn’t ego either. It was experience, plus training, plus Viyara’s own determination to change the course she had been on. And that was everything.

“Well then, back to work,” Janna said with a wink as she moved towards the door.
