Leaving Viyara in the holodeck, the system automatically registered her absence, and it would notify her if any one of a long list of circumstances occurred. She was far more confident about Viyara’s emotional stability right now and she was trusting the scientist to be able take care of her own needs for a little while. Still, there was a small part of her that was nervous.

Moving swiftly through the ship, Janna was pensive. Arriving at Hammor’s office where the computer told her he was, she pressed the chime and exhaled.

The door slid open and the green bulk of the Operations Chief looked up. Seeing Janna he smiled. “Well hello! This is a surprise.” and he stood up and said “Come in, please. Have a seat.”

Kingston have him a faint smile and quietly settled herself into a chair.

As she sat, he said “So…” and sat himself, “… what brings to the bowels of Operations? Did we finally make the tourist guide and you just had to see all this for yourself?” and he grinned.

Hammor, Ops

Janna laughed and gods it felt good! she sighed. “You need a marquee for that I think. Some sort of fine print rule.”

She was quiet for a moment before she looked at Hammor. “For the record I have been given full permission to speak with you and share personal information. So I’m not in breach of my oath of confidentiality here.”

Kingston took a moment to properly gather her thoughts before she continued. “I’m here about Viyara Nazeen. I understand that you two are quite close and you are someone she trusts. So because of those things you should know that I went to see her after the most recent incident on the holodeck. We’ve had a couple sessions together since then and early on during this morning’s she set off a number of warnings in my head that led to my removing her from duty and placing her under medical care. She’s under psychological assessment with me on the holodeck for the next forty-eight to seventy-two hours.”

Daggum sat back and said “Oh, V… is she ok? She took the safeties off, didn’t she’s? Is she hurt?” His voice was concerned and his face mirrored that sentiment.

Hammor, Ops

“She’s safe,”Janna said calmly. “The incident that lead to the file and notes left for me to follow up with were about the safeties, yes. But in our conversations she’s revealed stuff about the trauma she experienced in her childhood and I know she told you at least some of that. The problem with the kind of trauma that Viyara has experienced is that if left unprocessed for so long the way it has been, people can adopt harmful coping mechanisms. Her tendency towards self-harm coupled with her starting to finally face her trauma led me to believe that one emotional trigger that was too much for her would make her potentially go too far. She made a statement that made me worried for her safety and that’s why she’s under my care right now. I believe the immediate risk has past but now I’m in the clinical assessment phase. Which can be long and gruelling for both the therapist and the patient.”

Kingston exhaled. “Can you make yourself available on a moment’s notice tomorrow? I can’t guarantee a time or even if it will be okay by then, but Viyara has agreed that a friendly face visiting would be nice and I think it would help her greatly to have you involved in this process she’s going through. Once the assessment is done, it’s not over. For Viyara the process of healing will just be truly starting. And good friends can be the difference between moving forward and falling back into old patterns.”
