Janna continued writing for a bit, giving Viyara the time alone if she needed it. But after about thirty minutes she got up and moved to the kitchen. She would simply ask the computer to generate the food but for some things she was going to be anachronistic. “I’m going to have some lunch I think,” she called out so Viyara could hear her. “Feel free to eat when you feel you need to.”

Even though she had heard Janna loud and clear, Viyara didn’t seem to react. She certainly didn’t reply. Nor did she stop writing and drawing in her journal.

Filling a kettle with water, Janna plugged it in and grabbed a large french press to make some coffee.

A few minutes after Janna had started to make coffee, Viyara suddenly appeared in the doorway to the kitchen. Leaning against it, she said, “I’m sorry I snapped at you earlier. That was uncalled for.”

Janna looked over her shoulder as the kettle settled down after coming to a boil. “If I took it personally every time a patient got upset with me, I’d have burnt out and walked away a long time ago.” She smiled. “I appreciate and accept the apology, even if it isn’t necessary.”

“Coffee? Tea? Something else?” Janna asked asked she gently poured the water in a circle over the grounds in the carafe. “There’s something so comforting about something warm in my hands. Doesn’t hurt that I have terrible circulation these days and my hands are often cold,” she said with a chuckle.
