Viyara allowed herself to take her time and really think about that as they continued to make their way further down the staircase. Her gaze was fixed on the ocean, but she wasn’t really seeing it. Instead she was thinking, analysing, weighing options.
Stopping rather suddenly in her tracks, Viyara turned around and looked at Janna. There was fear in her features, but also determination. “All my life I’ve down everything in my power to keep what happened to me as far away from me as possible. Hidden in the deepest and darkest abyss in my mind. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be truly and fully ready, but …“ She shook her head, “I think I’m as ready as I’ll ever be and not knowing when we’ll talk about only makes me more afraid of talk about it.“ She sighed softly and shook her head, her arms still around her middle.

“That’s completely natural,” Kingston said softly. “And it’s different to hear the words and feel them intuitively, but remember that we’re on the holodeck here and now Viyara. Those emotions are real and they won’t be minimized , but they can’t hurt you and the people whose actions created them in you can’t hurt you here either. You are safe here with me, and I know you believe that. So trust that, and let’s go walk amongst the Giants,” she said softly.

Viyara nodded once again as she inhaled the salty air deeply. Now that they were getting close to the bottom of the stairs the smell of salt and tang became more noticeable. Just as the sound of the waves became louder. It was different than the smell and sounds she associated with the place where she grew up. It seemed to help her stay focused in the present as she began to think about what had happened. Noticing that brought the tiniest smile to her face and made it a little bit easier to trust that she would be safe here while telling her story.
Once at the bottom of the staircase, Viyara led the way towards the Giant’s Causeway. Closest to the cliffs the rock formation steeply rose a few metres and then slowly evened out towards the ocean again. She climbed partly up that steep part and then moved carefully along one side till she got to the side closer to the sea. Waves were crashing against the rocks, washing over a fair part of them. So she only moved a little distance towards the water. Getting drenched by a cold wave wouldn’t be much fun. Even on the holodeck.
Taking her backpack off, Viyara sat down on one of the rocks, facing the ocean. She still didn’t say anything and instead pulled her water bottle out and drank a little while waiting for Janna to say something instead Maybe even help her to find a point and way to start by asking a question.

Janna followed, scooting up and around the basalt columns to sit with Viyara, mindful of her footing. Setting in front of her patient, Janna slipped her backpack off and fetched her water. “Okay, so before we get started we need to set the stage as it were. It’s very important when we have been experiencing dissociation that we take steps to guard against it and give ourselves the tools to either stop it from taking hold or pull us out of it. So, first off, grab you water and one of your snacks, maybe something more crunchy and your tension balls.”
Reaching inside her backpack, Viyara nodded as she pulled the almonds, apple slices and sherbet lemons out and sat them on one of the columns in front of her.
She set about grabbing her trail mix for herself. “Computer, generate two blankets,” Janna said and two folded blankets appeared. She set one in front of Viyara and sat up enough to put ht blanket under her. “The rocks could hurt to sit on for a long time.”
~Janna Kingston, CNS
Viyara stood up and took the blanket from Janna. Still folded once, she placed it where she’d just been sitting before setting down again herself. She then placed the bottle and the snacks on the blanket and within easy reach. Pulling the tension ball out of her pants’ pocket, she held it for a moment, pondering, before reaching into the backpack once more. This time she pulled her journal out and placed it on one of the columns between her and Janna. Raising her gaze, she asked, “What now?” There was a slight tremble in her voice, but expression was still determined.
