Viyara looked surprised and even slightly confused by the question, but answered without missing a beat. “The first thing I’d do was make sure your okay and treat your injuries, at least enough that you’d be stable. Depending on the severity of your injuries I’d also call medical for help. If it isn’t anything life threatening or something that completely incapacitates you, like … say a broken wrist, I’d get both of us somewhere were we or I can be of any help to the ship and the crew.”

“Why,” Janna asked simply. A simple question with layers upon layers of possible answers.

“Really?” Viyara asked a little incredulously, but before Janna could say anything she tried to answer the question. “I may not be an exemplary officer, but I’m not an a§$%&le. And that means I’ll always do everything in my power to help. Just like I’ll never leave anyone behind or let them fend for themselves. And with only the two of us here, my first priority would be to make sure you are okay and then help the rest of the crew. If let’s say Dr. Grey or Dr. Niles were here as well, I’d let them take care of you and see what I could do to help the rest of the crew to fight off the attack.” She shrugged slightly as she fell silent again.

Rather than be taken aback by Viyara’s response, Janna just gave her a wide and warm smile. “I know. But sometimes we have to remind ourselves of what we believe in. “Do you believe I would do the same for you?”

This time her reply didn’t come quite as fast, though she still sounded fairly certain when she said, “Yeah, I think so. You are the kind of person who’d do that. No matter who the other person is and whether they deserve to be taken care of and saved or not.” She gave another small shrug and dropped her gaze.
