Stark and Michail had successfully completed their first mission for K’Tan, T’Pon’s father. It just so happened that they arrived back on Commiserate in time for Stark’s 20th birthday. T’Pon and S’Raal had dressed for the occasion and at age 12 and 13 respectively it had not been lost on Stark (nor K’Tan) that they had matched their colours. Michail still held back and felt out of place but all in all it was a pleasant family occasion right down to Stark moaning about the absolute necessity of taking a holovid of the proceedings.

Of course as at all times when there was a moment of family bliss, disaster struck…

An alarm went off in K’Tan’s lab and everyone, youngster’s included spun at the sound.

“Perimeter excursion” Michail said checking the readings, “Moving fast”. He placed his hand on the console and started drawing energy from it into his nanites.

Stark instinctively looked at K’Tan who simply said “Outside”. The look he gave Stark made it clear that they were to take the fight outside to protect S’Raal and T’Pon. T’Pon knew that look as well and deliberately picked up a Kusari Gama flipping the chain weapon deftly around her upper arm. K’Tan looked stern, T’Pon looked just as sternly back, K’Tan smiled slightly rolled his eyes and headed for the door, daughter hot on his heels.

“Happy Birthday Stark” Michail said as he bolted through the door following S’Raal who wasn’t letting T’Pon out of his sight.

Stark bared his teeth and flooded his body with adrenalin. “Best birthday ever” he snarled as he launched into the fight…
