Juvri smiled. “If I’m gonna be a good Security Officer I definitely need to try and learn it!” she said. She had finished her food and presently, she leaned back on her elbows. “Ballet is fun, but it’s really hard,” she commented, shaking her head. “It’s cool you kept it up. I bet you’re pretty good at it by now.”

“I’m not professional ballerina level good, but I’d like to think that I’m a pretty decent dancer,” Viyara nodded and then turned her head towards Juvri as she continued, “But enough about me. What kind of dancing do you like? And when would you like to start some martial arts lessons?” As easy going as their conversation had been so far and as much as she appreciated that Juvri wasn’t trying to pry, there was always the possibility of someone asking a question she wouldn’t be able to answer. So once again she shifted the topic away from herself to hopefully prevent that from happening.

“I did ballet for a while but I wasn’t very good at it. I learned some ballroom dancing, and that was a bit easier… Until we got past the basic stuff.” Juvri told her. “But it’s pretty awkward without a partner. Oh, you’re the one teaching me. Whenever’s best for you is fine,” Juvri answered the second question. She didn’t want to bother Viyara with it if she was busy.

“Well, I’m not yet on duty since the Athena only just returned. So I’m free whenever you like,” Viyara replied light-heartedly. Of course she should take care of her boarding evals and report for duty, but really who cared if she did so a few hours sooner or later? “Maybe first thing tomorrow morning? Some time later tomorrow or this week if that works better for you?” she suggested and finished the rest of the water in her glass. “Or even right now, if you like? I’m very flexible,” she added with wink.

“A-any time i-” Juvri began, but Viyara had already spit out multiple ideas of times. “R-right now? Well, it’s not like I don’t have the time. I’m not on duty yet, either.” said Juvri. She had yet to actually see the Athena, let alone board and check-in. “Yeah. Why don’t we get some quick time in now?” She decided finally. If she could say she knew ‘some’ martial arts, maybe her new COS wouldn’t think she was… quite as pathetic as she felt.

“Now it is then,” Viyara beamed and jumped to her feet. =/\= Computer, change the program to a typical dojo, =/\= she called out as she picked up the remainders of their snack. After placing everything in the replicator to recycle it, she stepped onto the middle of the mat and motioned for Juvri to join her.
“Alright. First things first. No matter which martial arts you practice, before each training and each fight, you always start with a bow while facing the other person or persons,” Viyara instructed. She then placed her hands in front of her chest as if in prayer and bowed slightly forward.

“Okay,” said Juvri, taking her place on the dojo mat. Then, she mimicked the movement and bowed. Once she had, she looked intently to Viyara for instruction.

“Alright,” Viyara nodded. “The next thing that is important is one’s posture. Your back should be always straight and your knees slightly bent. That helps with all your movements and stabilises you.”
“I practice mostly Taekwondo. So that’s what I’m going to basis this one,” Viyara continued. “It’s from a place called Korea and a types of weaponless self-defence where you use your hands, arms and feet to attack and to block. Okay?”
“There are a number of ways how you can position your feet. One of the basic ones looks like this,” Viyara said and shifted her legs. Her left leg was in front of her right leg, both feet pointing forward and plated firlmy on the ground. Her right leg was extended and her left leg bent with the centre of her weight being right in the middle.
