Hammor moved from his chair to the edge of the table. A large green hand settled on her bare shoulder, but it’s touch was delicate… gentle… almost unreal considering the size of it. He slowly pulled her shoulder back to him so she would face him.
Viyara tried to resist at first, but the gentleness of his touch shifted something in her and she stopped, letting his hand turn her towards him again insted.
“My darling wife…” he said with a gentle and friendly smile,”… you don’t have to hide tears from me. I’ve shed plenty of my own. I don’t judge, and I don’t think you are weak. If you want to take a few and let some of that go, go ahead. The room is sound proof and I can just light up the ‘Privacy Please’ light on the door. Besides, what better time to let go than when you are naked with your husband?” and he smiled again. He reached over to the table and hit a small blue button that then glowed softly. He then sat on the chair next to her, thigh to thigh.
“There. No one will come in until we turn that off. Now… c’mere.” and he wrapped one large arm around her and pulled her into his chest, face first so he didn’t see her.

For the first time in a long time, Viyara let go of the mask she was almost always wearing and the wall that was always around her. Pulling legs up so that her thighs were almost touching her chest while mostly resting on his thigh, she leaned into Daggum and didn’t even try to stop the tears that were flowing down her cheeks now. Her slender frame was shaking slightly with silent sobs and for several moments she just sat there, crying.
Daggum’s arms encircled her, lifting her onto his leg so that she was settled against his frame. He didn’t speak, didn’t move… save for a slight rocking.
While the tears still run down her cheeks, her sobs started to ease. Her voice no more than a whisper, she found herself saying, “I’m afraid to talk about my past. I’m afraid of what will happen if I do. I am afraid of getting hurt again, of reliving what happened. But I also can’t stop thinking about it. Not for long anyway.”

Daggum remained silent for a moment, making sure she had said her peace. “Talking about your past is something most people are afraid of. Our past has shaped us, for good or ill, into who we are. Most are lucky… their past is simply a series of events they can look back on and slowly forget. But for a few… those like us…” and he emphasized the word to let her know she was not alone, “… for us it was a crucible that burned and crushed and shaped us with fire and pain. So its okay to not want to talk about it. And it’s okay to be afraid, V.” He used her initial because it simply felt right. “But if you keep thinking about it… doesn’t that mean you already are reliving it? You deserve better. Because after all, you really did reach the stars… right?” and he kissed the top of her head without realizing it.
Viyara sniffled a little and then nodded. Daggum was right of course. But where did that leave her?
“Don’t forget your past. But don’t forget to be proud of what you have become now, either. Because from where I am sitting… you are a woman anyone would be lucky to call their wife.” and he pulled back and looked at her, smiling as he gently wiped away the tears.

“How can I be?” Viyara asked quietly as locked her eyes with Daggum’s. She wanted to believe him. Wanted for his words to be true. But she just couldn’t. It was the opposite of how she saw herself when she looked inside herself. “What is there to proud of? And I don’t think I’d be good for anyone as anything other than a friend. And even that I’m not entirely sure of,” she continued. By now her sobs had, to her annoyance, turned into hiccups, but a few tears were still running down her cheeks.
