Hammor nodded. “Yeah… it was a special kind of hell, I’m sure. But on the plus side, there’s a special kind of hell for those that do that, too.” and he gave her a wink and reached out grasped her shaking fork hand and gave it a single and surprisingly gentle squeeze before he went back to his food.

As Hammor placed his hand on hers, Viyara closed her eyes for a brief moment and took a deep breath. Funny good such a small gesture could feel.

“I’m telling you… if we had food like this on the ship, we’d never have a shortage of crew. Like… ever.”

Hammor, Ops

“I bet,” Viyara laughed. “Everyone would want to be stationed on the Athena if there was food this good. Though the drinks Marishka makes are absolutely fabulous as well,” she grinned knowingly.

Hammor tensed slightly at the mention of the lounge hostess, but he nodded and said “So I’ve heard.”

“Of all the places you’ve been to so far, which one did you like best? And where else do you want to go?” Viyara asked before eating another forkful of her lunch.

Hammor thought about that as he chewed a bite. “Well, I was stationed on the Manhattan for a bit. You heard of her? She’s based out of Event Horizon Station in the Delta Quadrant. Truly massive ship.” and he grinned at her. “You’d love it, I think. She’s an exploratory science vessel, but built on a dreadnought hull. Yeah, that was pretty exciting. As far as where I’d like to go? Well, I’m pretty open, I’ll go wherever I’m needed. But I would like to stay somewhere for a bit. I’ve had 4 duty stations in less than three years. I’d like to actually unpack all the way once!” and he laughed out loud. “I’m serious! I have crates I haven’t even opened in that time sitting in my quarters right now!” and he laughed again.

“I have!” Viyara exclaimed with a laugh. “That sure would be an interesting ship to be stationed on. And hey, who wouldn’t like to go to the Delta quadrant?!”

“So what about you? Same questions back to ya.”

Hammor, Ops

“Hmm,” Viyara pondered, her head tilted slightly to the left. “From the ships I’ve been stationed on so far, I’d say the USS Kajaani was my favourite so far. She is a medium sized explorer. We were on a number of first and second contact missions. There was this planet, Elasis, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. Lush vegetation and most stunning mountain ranges. The ocean was purple!” Her eyes sparkled as she remembered that planet. It had been one of the few away missions she’d been on.

“As for where I’d like to go … would you allow ‘everywhere I haven’t been yet’ as my answer?” Viyara asked cheekily. “Honestly, though, I love going to new places. I haven’t changed postings nearly as much as you. Though I don’t think I would mind if I had. The longest I ever stayed in one place after leaving Sohiri was three year for my last two postings. Each time I started to get really restless after the second year. Because of that I travel very lightly.” She laughed softly and helped herself to another ravioli.

“I think I’ll allow that answer… this time.” Daggum said with a grin. He ate a bite of the pasta Primavera and then said “The Kajaani… I think I know her. Her XO and I served together right after the Academy. She was still a Lieutenant at the time, though. Good officer.”

“Really?” Viyara asked surprised. “It really is a small universe, it seems,” she laughed. Of course the universe wasn’t actually small, but sometimes it sure felt like it.

“Yeah… but I wouldn’t want to have to paint it.” he replied with a wink.

He ate a few more bites in silence and then said “So if you weren’t a scientist… what would you be? Both in Starfleet and out?”

“I’m not sure. Maybe a tour guide for adventure vacations? I think I’d like that. Or maybe something like a detective? Solving crimes, you know?” Viyara pondered. “Within Starfleet I probably pick Intelligence or maybe Security if I wasn’t a scientist. How about you?” she asked with a lopsided smile and one eyebrow raised.

Hammor smiled and said “I honestly don’t know. I mean, I want to go to Command training. But I really need to find a place I’m going to be for a bit so I can do that. Otherwise, I really like Engineering and Operations. Fits me pretty well.”

“Command training?” Viyara asked and nodded, looking impressed. “That’s awesome. I hope you’ll be able to stay long enough on the Athena to go for it,” she continued sincerely. Command training was something she had never even thought of for herself. Then again, she also was fairly certain that no one would even consider her to become a department head. Not that she actually wanted that. or so she kept telling herself and everyone else.

Hammor smiled and said “Thanks. I really appreciate that. We shall see, I guess.” He shrugged oof the future and then said “So what do you do for fun? Not hobbies and such, but to let loose? You a dancer? Diver? Lose yourself in a holideck simulation of crappy romance novels?” and he chuckled at the absurdity of the last one.
