It was eight minutes later when he arrived at the docking port. Thankfully, sonic showers worked fast. Fast enough he had changed clothes. He was wearing blue jeans, black boots, and a dark blue jacket over a t-shirt that had a cartoon drawing of a human-looking man in a blue, skin tight uniform with a red cape and a red ‘S’ on his chest who appeared to be flying over a city. The word ‘Superman’ was written in stylized font across the top of the picture.

It was less than thirty seconds later that Viyara rounded the corner and appeared next to Hammor. Her hair was pulled back in her usual messy pony tail; her feet clad in strappy black high heels. She was wearing a short pleated tartan skirt in black, grey and dark purple a long with purple shirt that matched the colour in the skirt. Somehow the shirt managed to fit somewhat loosely while also accentuating her slim, well toned figure. “First round is on me then,” she grinned before adding with a nod towards his shirt, “Who is Superman?”

He extended an arm towards the open docking port and his hand went to gently to the small of her back as he ushered her through, with him ducking and following right behind. “Old Earth comic book character. Superhero. Could fly, stop bullets with his skin, see through walls, shoot phasers form his eyes… that kind of thing. I collect comics from the 20th century forward.” and he fell into step beside her. “What about you? Any hobbies?” he asked and looked down at her with an inquiring smile.

“Huh, interesting. That sure would com in handy,” Viyara mused as they walked along the hallways of the station. “Some martial arts and boxing as you may have guessed. But I also enjoy rock climbing very much and Parrises squares is a lot of fun. I guess you can say I like to do things that are physical and involve adrenaline. Especially when there aren’t really any safety nets. Though I am a scientist. So a riddle or an interesting experiment is very much down my alley as well,” she replied with a mischievous grin. “Anything else you enjoy besides Tai Chi and collecting comic books?” she added curiously.

He walked with her from the docking collar area of the station and into the busier parts. Foot traffic increased and they were forced to walk closer together. “Love to play some Parrises Squares. Nice.” he said with a grin. “Other than that, I tend to stay pretty busy with work. Unfortunate, but such is life I guess.” He stopped for a moment and got his bearings.

Viyara nodded thoughtfully. Of course she had managed so far to have a decent amount of spare time. Either by pushing boundaries and spending a little less time on her duties than she should - though she had a feeling that that would not work with her new department head - or because people didn’t always trust her and gave her only the simplest tasks, leaving her with some time on her hands. And as long as she stayed in the labs and worked on one of her pet projects, no one seemed to care much. or so it had been till now.

“So I heard of this place called Chuy’s on the Promenade. Supposed to be really good food, but it’s tucked away in the far back part of the Promenade. So bear with me if it takes me a minute to find it.”

“Of course. I’m happy to wait if it means there’ll be good food in the end,” Viyara grinned as she followed Hammor.

After a few minutes, they found themselves in front of a small store front indeed tucked back away from the hustle and bustle of the regular traffic. Hammor opened the door, and the aroma of fresh baked bread wafted out. Hammor’s eyes lit up and he said “Ok… now that I haven’t smelled in a long time.”

Hammor

“That does smell delicious,” Viyara agreed as she inhaled deeply. “If the food is even nearly as good as it smells, than this place is amazing,” she added and stepped inside the small store. She stepped just far enough inside so that Hammor could come in as well. Standing there, she let her gaze travel through the room. Taking in the people, the furniture and everything.

The place was a small market that sold various sundries and foodstuffs that catered to various species that were regulars on the station. As Viyara and Daggum entered, a matronly human woman looked up from behind the counter and smiled. “Well hello. Welcome. Are you shopping or dining today?” Hammor smiled back and said “Dining, please.” and she pointed to the back of the store.

Hammor gestured for Viyara to led and they came to red and white checkered curtain. Hammor reached over Viyara’s shoulder and pulled it back…

The shop opened into a large open seating area. Along the right side of the length if the room ran a counter. Behind it, almost a dozen humans were busy taking orders and making food. Sandwiches, soups, pastas, and some dishes Hammor had never seen were carted out from behind the counter and set at various tables.

“Wow. Certainly not what I would have expected,” Viyara said with a grin.

A large, burly human in a white apron covered with various smudges and stains came forward. “Two? I got ya right over there!” he yelled over the low noise of a few dozen conversations and pointed to a vacant table in the back near the far corner.

As they made their way to the table, Hammor pulled the chair out for Viyara and then took the other seat. “Well, this is unexpected… but I think I like it.” and he smiled as he looked around.

Hammor

Viyara looked at Daggum with a raised eyebrow and a bit of a smirk. She didn’t even remember the last time someone had pulled out a chair for her and she wasn’t entirely sure how it made her feel. Other than that it surprised and amused her, that is. “It is indeed,” she chuckled as she looked around, taking in everything and everyone around her.

“What’s your favourite type of food,” Viyara asked curiously, wondering if Daggum would surprise her once again.
