Marishka nodded and slid the drinks over.

“You know, it seems to me, being a counselor and being a bar tender have a few things in common. Like always being on duty. You really do need to make time for yourself. In the end you’ll just be helping everybody else, don’t you think? As for your tall new friend, tell him I said welcome to the Parthenon. Perhaps I’ll stop by your table and say hi myself.”

“Oh, don’t worry, apparently us counselling staff hav backup on the way, so things should get better, but thank you for your concern,” Janna said sincerely. “And I’ll pass along your message.” With a small bow of her head, the counsellor moved off.

Winding her way through the tables, Janna easily found Daggum. “A daiquiri for you, Sir, and another wine for me,” she said setting the drinks down and taking a seat.

Folding her arms on the table and gazing at him, Janna was quiet for a moment. “Our hostess, Marishka says Welcome to The Parthenon. It’s the name for this lounge.”

~Janna Kingston, ACNS

A not-so-well-concealed and dismissive snort escaped Daggum’s nostrils and his eyes involuntarily locked on Marishka for a moment and then went back to Janna and a sincere smile appeared. “Interesting name… glad to see the ship sticking with a theme.” and he chuckled. Sliding the drink closer to him he said “Many thanks to you, as well. Shall we have a toast?” and he lifted his glass and said “To new friends and new futures.”

Marishka violet sclerae silver eyes met this new comer’s. He was merely an Orion male who had dared set foot in her domain which meant he was less than nothing to her therefore, he could be as rude as he wished. She was on a ship full of people and a few of them liked her well enough to owe her a favor or two.

  • Marishka

Hammor’s glare indicated he caught the dismissive look. Typical for one them. Can’t even get away from them on damn starship… he thought to himself before choosing to dismiss the thought and instead focus on the decent person in front of him.

Janna lifted her glass and gently clinked it against his. “To new friends,” she said warmly. There was definitely a story there, but she wasn’t on duty nor his therapist and so it was none of her business unless he wanted it to be. “So… what were you thinking for food? I had a late lunch at my desk but I could definitely eat something right now.”

~Janna Kingston, ACNS

Hammor’s eyes narrowed and he said in a stage whisper “I don’t know what they do well here.” and he laughed softly. “I mean, if I am to be completely honest? One of my all time favorite meals is just a cheeseburger and fries. Oh, and a chocolate malt. There was this place near the Academy called Boz’s Cafe that made the best malts. I’ve been trying to find their equal since I graduated.” and he smiled at Janna. “But I am totally open.. and I am willing to fetch, since you brought the drinks.”

Hammor

“There’s a whole slew of replicators, so you can have whatever you like. Not sure what’s on the fresh menu tonight,” Janna said openly. “I say, go for the cheeseburger and fries if that’s what you’re really wanting. I myself think I wouldn’t mind fettuccine alfredo with a side of rustic garlic toast. But that malt drink of yours sounds interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever had one.” The last time she had had a truly relaxed social evening had been Orvos, and then more recently Izzy (though Orvos once again showed up). It felt really nice to just kick back and get to know someone- no pressure, no history.

~Janna Kingston

Hammor looked at the bar, and decided the replicator was the way to go. “Be right back.” and he slid out with a surprising amount of grace for one as large as he was and made his wat to the wall of replicators. Ordering both meals, he picked up both trays and walked back to the table, setting the trays down. “Here we go. Fettuccini alfredo, rustic garlic bread, and a chocolate malt for the lady.” and he sat back down.

“Thank you,” Kingston said brightly.

“So tell me your life story, Janna… if I may call you that?” he asked with a smile and picked up the burger.

Hammor

“Life story? All of it? Well I’ll try not to be too boring, but yes, of course you can call me Janna,” she said with a smile. “I’d prefer it actually. Though Doc is true and can be funny, it gets old fast.”

Janna tested the chocolate malt and her eyes lit up. “Okay, then! I can see why this is enjoyable. I’m glad you mentioned it,” she said with a laugh before delving into her pasta.

“Hmm, life story. Well, the overall gist is that I am from Alpha Eridani Two, born to two moms who both are still together and still live there. I already told you about being interested in science and behaviour, and that led to my wanting to explore and join starfleet after my undergraduate.” She paused to eat a bit more. “On my cadet cruise though, there was something of an accident. Got attacked by a semi-sentient vine and it did terrible things to my circulation system. I’ve got a mild form of haemophilia, so it requires extreme care to avoid dangerous consequences. But I was determined to stay in Starfleet and I’ve managed. Got worked a few assignments and got my PhD six years ago and been on the Athena four now.” She shrugged. “Not the most boring file about but also not the most exciting,” she said with a laugh.

~Janna Kingston, ACNS

Hammor chewed a bite of burger while she spoke, and as she finished he took a drink. Passable, he thought. “Oh, I dunno… sentient vine attacks and four years on a ship who seems to attract epic missions and situations… For someone who is supposed to take extreme care to avoid dangerous consequences, I don’t think you are quite taking that to heart.” and he laughed.

Hammor

Kingston chuckled. “Don’t think I haven’t thought of that,” she said as she twirled her fork into her pasta. “Actually, I was supposed to go to a small medical ship. It was a doing an exploratory mission with the Athena but then there was an incident and the assistant head of the counselling department was killed. They wanted someone with experience to fill the role because the circumstances of the woman’s death were… troubling for the crew and, well, I was available technically. So I get here instead. It wasn’t my choice but everyday I am in Starfleet I am at more potential risk. But I’ve weighed that against living anywhere else and accidents can happen to anyone. I’m no safer on some quiet colony than I am out here, so I choose to be where I am most useful.” She dug into her pasta with a smile.

Hammor took a big bite of burger and thought about what she had said… abut risk and accidents. Swallowing, he took a drink and then said “But risk is what we do… right? We take risks so that others don’t have to. So they can sleep in peace without worrying about what tomorrow may throw at them.” and he unconsciously glanced at the Lounge hostess before looking back at Janna. “So that those who would do harm for their own pleasure are kept at bay… at least… that is what I hope we do. Otherwise, I have some very strong words for whomever wrote the recruiting pamphlets.” and he grinned.
