Jayden turned to follow Orvos to Engineering.

“So, do we have a plan?” he asked once they were out of earshot of the rest of the group.

IC: Orvos turned to Bennett again. “Not yet. But we need to get one quick.” He paused for a brief moment to recall what he knew. “I’m currently in engineering and you ought to be on the bridge. Rather, our past selves are in those positions. We need to figure out what happened with the energy conduits. Do you remember anything on the bridge that might help us with that?”

IC: Orvos considered where Pierce likely had come in. He vaguely recalled an intruder alert in Cargo Bay 3, which is probably where Pierce was found. That was on deck 44, which was only one deck away from a great deal of engineering systems. Lower anti-matter storage tanks, Pneumatic Manual Ejection System Mechanism, and of course Secondary Engineering Support Systems.

Secondary Engineering Support Systems…

Orvos quickly turned to Bennett. “If Pierce was found in cargo bay 3, that’s not a far fetch from the secondary engineering support systems. If he somehow managed to get in there…he may have made the descrution of the Athena possible in there. Come on, man! Let’s go!”

Orvos would give ear to his subordinates comments or concerns, even if it meant while doing it on the run as he quickly headed to deck 43.

Jayden ran off with his Chief. “I’m trying to remember what occurred on the bridge. If I recall, we were hit with a chroniton weapon. It destabilized the majority of the ships systems.” He explained as they ran.

Find Crazy Eyes Stupid hat, which was his job with Shadow brother. That Nico could do, now that he was ready. He had his pew pew, his beep beep, and his shinies on. Yup, Agent Nico was on the case, Nico decided as he pulled up his face mask to hide the coloring if not the decidedly cat like shape of his face. A modern Starfleet ninja on a budget. To that end Nico reached out with his mind as he headed towards a Jefferies tube entrance. The Athena’s backroads and byways, and the best way to travel as a Ninja.

At this point in time Nico could sense Crazy Eyes Stupid Hat near a turbo lift where he had just recently left the Captain who was presently heading for the bridge.

Meanwhile on Deck 44 in the Secondary Engineering Support Systems everything seemed normal, or at least as normal as Secondary Engineering Support Systems can look when there is a box affixed to the side of a panel that has lots of blinking lights on it that seem to be blinking a little faster with each passing second.

Jayden entered the engineering support systems control room and took a look around. Everything seemed normal, which didn’t surprise him.

“I’m not seeing anything out of the ordinary sir.” Jayden said as he continued to look at the various consoles, looking for any indication that something was out of the ordinary. He started to become dishearten, maybe they were in the wrong place. Maybe what ever they were looking for was someplace else, he wondered as he noticed a box that looked a little out of place near a side console.

He took a look at it and became mesmerized by the blinking lights that seemed to get faster and faster.

“Ah Sir, I think I may have found something?” he reported, apprehensively.

Orvos had also been going over systems and checking things out. Nothing seemed to be amiss until Bennett brought up some sort of box he found. Orvos grabbed a tricorder from the stash left in the room and moved over to the box. “Good find,” he said mesmerized by it. As the pattern of lights increased in speed, he figured this was some sort of device rigged to explode.

The chief engineer pulled the tricorder close and scanned it for anything unusual. While the results displayed, he remarked on his thoughts. “The speed of the lights indicate to me that it could be some sort of explosive device, perhaps?”

He then made a closer visual inspection, determining whether there was a way to safely extract it and keep it from doing any harm. Time was certainly of the essence.

The device was giving off familiar chroniton readings. It was quite literally a “time bomb”, designed to throw the engineering systems out of sync allowing the energy from the Counter Strike ship’s weapons to find it’s way to the warp core and cause the resulting critical core overload.

“Oh joy,” Jayden said sarcastically, “and I forgot my bomb defusing equipment in the other timeline.” He took a look at the device. “It’s connected to the ships systems. If this goes off it will start a power cascade to the warp core. I bet that is what happened before, or will or I whenever.” he said confused.

Orvos stifled a chuckle at his subordinate’s observance of how confusing this could potentially get. He studied the device for a moment. He scanned it again to find anything hat might prevent it from being beamed off and transported somewhere else. He also considered notifying current Orvos…or, err past…hmmm…the ‘other’ Orvos of the danger.

He looked to Bennett. “We need to get this thing off the ship. It would be really nice if we could beam it over to the enemy vessel, but that might not be possible. At the very least, we ought to get it out of the Athena. Or find a way to render it inactive.”

He paused considering whether they should notify their counterparts now. “We could probably use systems help from the bridge or engineering. Thoughts?” Orvos was always very cautious of trusting people from the get-go. But would ‘other’ him trust ‘now’ him…if that made any sense at all? He thought so, but waited for Jay’s input.

The scan showed that the device was attached to the console via a simple magnetic seal. It was difficult to determine whether or not removing it would cause it to respond, chroniton technology was a new field to this century’s Starfleet engineers. The lights continued to blink faster and faster and then the console itself lit up as some program responded from somewhere transferring control of the engineering systems from primary systems to the secondary systems panel they were looking at right now.

A thought occured to Jayden. “Sir, Can we just beam the whole console into space?” He asked curiously, his mind racing.

Orvos shook his head. “Unlikely. It would likely do significant damage to all secondary systems, given that this where they are routed. However…” he said looking over the console. “I believe we have control of engineering systems through this console. Curious.”

He attempted to gain control of the engineering systems that had been transferred to their console. “The device is likely Chroniton in nature. If I can get a solid dispersal of anyons in this area, maybe we could transport the device away from the ship?” he pondered aloud, curious as to what Bennett would say. He worked on following through with his plan while the ensign either waited or replied.

Orvos pointed to a similar console nearby. “Maybe be ready with the transporters. I’m hoping that anyons might render it disabled.”

The anyons were indeed working their prescribed effect on the device and the lights became out of sync and erratic, however suddenly the lights went completely dead and at that precise moment the internal communication system broadcast red alert. They had come into contact with the Counterstrike vessel and were under fire. The shot that was going to tear through the Athena was likely only moments away…
