Wallace listened attentively, and laughed at the comment about the two having eloped on the ship. “Congrats. And lucky you for finally getting some time off. Funny, I was going to go on shore leave for about the same period of time. But then they sent me my instructions to come here, so that’ll have to wait for a while longer,” she chuckled.

“Ahh well, we still might have downtime on our hands so you may yet have an opportunity. What were you planning on doing?” Ghubari asked.

“My sister recently had a kid, I was going to visit home and check in on all the growing Nieces and Nephews, and all that jazz. It’s going to be delayed a bit longer now, obviously,” Jennifer gave a small shrug. She was quiet for a few moments, staring out the window. “I’ll definitely keep an eye out for people who don’t seem to be doing well. It’s a good idea, and you’re right about my medical background giving me a different perspective. I love that fact, that people from any department can end up on the track to command if they apply themselves well enough. Even though it was unexpected, I think I’ll be grateful for this experience, in the end.”

The captain nodded. “I come from a security and tactical background, and while that’s not an uncommon path to move to command from, I have been made very aware of my blindspots over the years. I have to trust that my first officer and the rest of the senior staff can fill in the gaps, just as I will do that same for them.”

“We’ll do our best to fill in those blind spots,” Jennifer said with a small smile.

“Any questions so far?”

Jennifer thought for a moment, then shook her head slightly. “I don’t think so, Captain,” she said with a tiny smile, looking around the room. “Do you have any questions for me?”

Wallace, XO

Ghubari gave a tiny smirk. “Any food allergies? Or foods you can’t stand?” She had an idea brewing that was starting to be a bit of a routine with her but it seemed to be a good one.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Jenn grinned. “I mean, there are a few too many to list,” she replied. “Not allergies, that I’m aware of. But my mom always told me I was the pickiest child in the Galaxy. I like spice but my metabolism literally cannot handle it. I don’t know why, but I go red as a beet whenever I eat anything spicy. Can’t stand onions either, weirdest choice of foods I don’t like. Generally though, I’ll try anything once. Twice if it’s been over five years since the first time I had it.”

Ghubari couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh no, well this is terrible. But I think I can adapt,” she said with a gleam in her pale amber eyes. “Tell you what, why don’t you take the rest of today and tomorrow morning to settle in and I’ll make you lunch tomorrow?”
