: : : Ben nodded as she finished. He’d worked with some amputation victims, mostly old war vets around the time he graduated. The psychological ramifications was a greatly discussed item during his medical training “Has the new leg had any specific effect on your health or habits in General? Increased or decreased certain factors in your life?” He asked after a moment.

: : She couldn’t help but chuckle somewhat dryly. “Oh Benjamin, you have no idea,” she said with slightly raised eyebrows and a tiny smirk. “You get the new and improved me. The one that isn’t constantly worried about losing her command over her physical issues. I can walk down the corridor, face a battle, engage in intense physical activity, you name it. And I can do so without worrying about my damn leg popping off, or nerve pain bad enough to make me pass out at times- direct hits were bad. The new leg is a new chance at a life I never could have had. I would have always had to settle for good enough, whereas know I can aim for excellent. I do pity the crew tiny bit though. If I’m worried about anything, it’s that I have lost a very strong motivating factor in my life. But on this ship, my duty to the crew is way more than enough most days.”

: Benjamin nodded in approval “That is to be expected when a loss motivates you, regaining what was once believed to be lost for good can be quite the shake-up” He finalized his mental notes and reached into his jacket “Excuse me a moment” He took a small device from inside and placed it over his nose and inhaled deeply “Apologies, Captain. I require regular injections of this” He placed the inhaler back “Helps numb my senses, focus my mind on something other than every individual smell around me” He zipped up his Uniform “I’ve just recently started with this formula inhaled directly through the nose, I was inspired by ancient medication for nasal problems.” He shuddered slightly and stretched his neck “I’m afraid that this might be a tad to strong a dose, need to lower it for next time” He leaned back on the bed “Did you regularly take any specific medicine for pain and such after the loss of your leg?” He asked from his lying position.

She didn’t comment on his little administration, but Ghubari observed with interest and also appreciation for his willingness to be equally open with her. It showed respect and trust. “I did need pain medication and we changed it up a couple of times, as I’d adapt to things. I also had to be on a blood thinner at first until the edema reduced, since the risk of blood clots was quite high.”

“But I will be open about the other side of my pain and stress management that was not medically administered.” Koraia’s expression deepened and became more solemn. “My mother’s people are very spiritual and there are many ways to connect to the deeper parts of yourself. As an empath too I need to find ways to clear my mind of all the sensory input, not unlike your need with your nose. I use a bark that I steep in hot water to create an infusion. It causes a psychotropic effect. My does is carefully measured and I will state for the record that I’ve never overdose. But I do keep beside me a stimulant that will bring me out of my meditative state and also an antidote in case of overdose. Now, while I try to meditate daily, I don’t use the iboga’ all the time. It’s an important part of my life, but I rarely have enough time for the after effects, because it takes time to wear off naturally.”

There didn’t seem to be a reaction at first but he did take longer before replying after learning about this bark Chewing of his Captain “I see” He paused before casually shrugging “Well there is untold medicinal value in natural remedies. I would, however, like to have a sample of this Bark to have in my system, maybe some bloodwork for when you are under its influence.” He stood up and walked to a nearby cabinet and started rummaging for a moment before a silent eureka moment “Brava” he said quietly as he grabbed a small silver box and returned “This is the latest GeniTech model Neurocortical Monitor. I would like if you could wear it for the next time you…” There was a slight pause as he searched for the correct language “Indulge yourself. I would only need the one time, but since it would send continuous data streams directly to me. I would program it to send info to me and me alone, it would alleviate some worries I might have.” He handed the small box to her “This is of course all optional, but I believe the tests to be neccecary for me to understand what you would be going through on a physical level.”

There was no way he’d miss her hesitancy, but Ghubari reached out and accepted the monitor. “I steep the bark in a tea and I can give you a sample of both the bark and the resulting infusion when I make it.” She wiggled the cortical monitor between her fingers. “I’ll do this, but understand that you’re observing something that goes beyond basic medicine. Whether you believe it or not, the experiences I have are very real to me and they shape my life. It’s a spiritual experience that transcends everyday reality.” She was pretty open about her beliefs, but it was still strange to discuss them in this manner. Usually when she did it was in a more personal setting in an even more informal conversation than they one they were having.

Benjamin took a moment before answering “I’m a Doctor in a world where people can read emotions and shoot energy out of their heads” He smiled somberly “But behind every metaphysical and holistic experience is a Scientific explanation. Behind every Prophet is a Wormhole Alien and so on and so forth. Even Scots have their spiritual Experiences” Benjamin was pleased with her acceptance of his proposal “Besides I’d only really need a baseline test, incase of… wel in case of anyting really.”
